What a 3 inch outlet does with 96 inches of head above it

• Access: an 18 inch threaded vented manway, 96 inches up. Eight feet is a short fixed platform with a rail, not a leaned ladder against a round wall, and the alternative is a fill coupling brought down to working level so a delivery never needs a person on the lid. Keep the manway closed between deliveries.
• Vent: clear at all times, and sized for the pump that fills the tank rather than the one that empties it, because inbreathing and outbreathing are different numbers. A vent that cannot keep up with a delivery pump damages the tank on the way in, and one blocked while a transfer pump draws damages it on the way out.
• Inspection: light the vapor band above the liquid line whenever the lid is off. That strip of wall changes before anything else does and it is invisible from the pad.

The head is the asset on this shape and most installations throw it away by putting the pump where there was room instead of where the physics wants it.
