White or black, heavy wall or general: sorting the four

The four tanks in this shell split two ways. Color first: the C26 and C37 are natural white, the C26-BLACK and C37-BLACK are black. Wall second: the C26 grades carry the heaviest rating, the C37 grades the general one, each as its own sheet says. This tank is white and heavy, so it is the one for a dense chemical that is not light-sensitive and a plant that wants to see the level: ferric under a roof, a concentrated brine indoors, an acid in a chemical room where an operator reads the tank by eye every shift. If the same liquid stands in the sun, the C26-BLACK is the better buy, because black stops the ultraviolet that ages a white wall and keeps light off the liquid; if the liquid is water or a light chemical, the C37 does the job for less. Full at the rating it puts 41,992 pounds, about twenty-one tons, on a 102 inch circle, and a rotationally molded floor bears on all of it: an engineered slab in full contact per the concrete pad sizing guide, inside a berm sized to the tank when the liquid is regulated, with the empty tank strapped before the first fill. All four grades in this shell are listed at 510 pounds; the sheet gives that and we print it. The 5090000C26 stands 2,500 gallons on a 90 inch base at 107 inches, a foot narrower and ten inches taller, for the site with less floor; the 5130000C34 stands 3,000 gallons on that base at 127 inches in black with the heavy wall, for the site with height to spare.

Where the air goes when the truck pumps

• Vent: the 18 inch manway is vented, and the vent is sized to the truck, not the tank. A tanker's pump displaces air out of the headspace as fast as it puts liquid in; a vent that lags it lets the shell pressurize at the shoulder, and on the draw a fast transfer pump that outruns the vent pulls the wall inward. Size it to the fastest pump the tank will see, screen it against insects, and pipe it outdoors on a chemical that fumes.
• Headspace: fill to the shoulder, not the manway. A dense liquid grows as it warms, and the headspace is where it goes; on a white tank you can watch it happen.
• Outlet: 2 inch polypropylene female NPT bulkhead fitting at the base, matched to the liquid at order; a flanged transition where the chemical calls for it, a flexible connector to hard pipe, and the valve supported off the pad.
• Access: 18 inch threaded, vented manway, 97 inches up, opened from a step; fill through a dip tube so the liquid is not dropped eight feet.
• Service limit: 120 F / 48 C.

Eight feet of liquid above a 2 inch outlet is a flooded suction to the last few inches; mount the pump below the outlet so gravity primes it, and a low-level float shuts it down before it draws air. A white wall shows the level in daylight and a sender confirms it at night. Where winters freeze, the valve and the first pipe run get trace heat or insulation; the body ices from the top down without harm.

Dense chemicals under a roof

Ferric or alum in a water plant's chemical building, acid at an industrial plant, brine at a food plant, and a coagulant day tank at a well site with a canopy over it. Marked Tree to the pad, and what to look at on day one

The 8390000C26 ships from Marked Tree, Arkansas as LTL freight at class 400; at 102 inches across it is a load the carrier handles outside the trailer's normal freight, and the freight cost estimator quotes the lane to your ZIP, with the listed price before freight. A forklift with long forks sets 510 pounds on the pad with straps under the body, never through the manway. Strap it empty, fill it with water to the shoulder and hold it a day, watching the pad edge and the outlet fitting, then drain and dry before the chemical goes in. On a white tank, mark the shoulder line on the outside in paint marker; every fill after that has a target the driver can see from the hose.
