The lighter grade of the 1831000 shell

One opening, and the vent that has to do everything

• Vent: the 18 inch threaded, vented manway listed on this sheet is the only opening on the tank, which makes its vent path the only way air leaves during a delivery. It has to pass air out faster than the pump pushes liquid in, or the shell takes pressure it was never built to hold. Size it to the delivery pump, keep it clear of dust, spray and nesting between deliveries, and run it outdoors on anything that fumes.
• Fill: a dip tube to the floor. A fill dropped 89 inches down an empty shell foams the liquid, generates static in the products that carry it, and drums on the wall.
• Headspace: freeboard for thermal expansion at the 140 F / 60 C service limit, taken from the sizing guide rather than judged by how close the level is to the lid.
• Outlet: the outlet field reads "1 Manway / Lid" and gives no bottom fitting size, so the draw-off is specified at order against the liquid you name, with the fitting, gasket and bolting matched to it.

Because this tank has one opening, everything shares it: the fill line, the vent, the level instrument and the man who looks inside. Below, the first valve sits on its own support off the pad, a flexible connector absorbs thermal movement between the fitting and hard pipe, a transfer pump goes below the take-off for a gravity prime, and a low-level float stops it before it draws air.
