A 142 inch circle of pad, and what 100,080 pounds asks of it

A tank this size is bought twice: once as a vessel and once as a foundation, and the foundation is the half that goes wrong. The base circle is 142 inches across, a little under twelve feet, and the tank stands 198 inches tall above it. Full of water that is 100,080 pounds bearing on that circle, and 135,108 pounds at the 1.35 specific gravity the sheet rates this tank to. A pad has to be designed for that load on your soil, extend beyond the tank diameter on every side, be flat and be genuinely level, because a tall cylinder that is out of plumb never corrects itself and will load one arc of its base for as long as it stands. The sheet gives some figures here that are worth stating plainly rather than smoothing over. This 12,000 gallon tank is listed at 3,100 pounds empty while the smaller 10,500 gallon SII-5330000N30 is listed at 4,000 pounds, so the larger tank is the lighter one on paper; and SII-5350000N39 is listed in the same 142 by 198 inch envelope at the same 3,100 pounds but at 12,500 gallons. The sheet prints those numbers and offers no explanation for them, so this page prints them and offers none either. What it does not do is let you guess a rating from a size: this tank carries a specific gravity of 1.35 and SII-5330000N30 carries 1.9, and a rating is a property of the part you actually order, never of the family. The buying logic is straightforward once that is understood. Take SII-5330000N30 when the liquid needs the higher rating and the shorter 169 inch height suits the site. Take this one when the duty sits inside the 1.35 rating, the site can take 198 inches, and black is the shell you want. • Outlet: the outlet field on this sheet reads 3, with no inch mark. That is printed here exactly as the sheet gives it and nothing is inferred from it: no thread, no style, no pipe size. We will confirm the fitting on your part number in writing before it ships, and the chemical you name when you order is what the fitting, gasket and bolting are matched to.
• Valve and first joint: whatever the fitting turns out to be, put a full-flow isolating valve at the tank and support it from the ground, never from the tank wall, and break the first joint with a flexible connector so line movement and pump pulsation are not fed into the shell.
• Top access: an 18 inch manway, 198 inches up. That is a designed access problem, so specify the ladder, the platform, the fall protection and the confined space procedure before the tank is ordered, not the first time somebody needs to look inside.
• Venting: a large tank being filled from a tanker or drawn down by a pump has to move air at the same rate. Size the vent for the fastest fill and the fastest draw the site will ever do, and keep the path clear and screened.
• Service limit: 120 F / 48 C. The sheet publishes no warranty term for this part, so ask us for Snyder's current terms in writing rather than assuming the term another tank in the range carries.

The maintenance point that matters most on a shell this tall is where nobody looks. Bulk water, reuse trains and fire reserve on a rural site

Twelve thousand gallons is a site reserve rather than a process vessel. The sheet gives the freight class as OVS under NMFC 156600, and OVS is a mode rather than a numeric class: a 142 inch diameter shell standing 198 inches tall is an oversize movement with a route, clearances and a set-down plan, not a pallet on a line-haul trailer. Empty it is 3,100 pounds, so the unloading is about size and rigging rather than sheer weight: a crane or a large telehandler, slings on the points Snyder specifies, never a strap around the manway and never rolling it on gravel.
