Who buys a standing 550 instead of a horizontal tank on legs: a plant with a day tank beside a process line and four feet of floor to give it, a water or wastewater operator holding a chemical in a room where the aisle matters more than the ceiling, a well house or pump house using the tank as a buffer ahead of a booster, a shop or a wash bay that needs volume in a corner, a farm with a fixed fill point and a gravity feed to a mixer. The duty is stationary and the payoff is head. Six feet three inches of liquid standing over the base outlet is suction a pump does not have to work for, and it is enough to feed a hose, a mixer or a metering pump by gravity when the pump is off, which no horizontal leg tank in this batch can offer. The other half of the argument is the footprint: a 48 inch square of floor is four feet by four feet, which fits an aisle, a corner or a bunded pan without rearranging the room. What it asks in exchange is the floor under it and the restraint around it. One 48 inch footprint, from 500 to 750 gallons

Four of these tanks are the same 48 by 75 inch shell and the difference between them is what is in the wall and what is in it when it arrives. Two of them, spelled on the sheet without the prefix the others carry, are listed as having no fitting: they are the shell for a buyer who will drill and fit it themselves or who has a fitting spec of their own. This one arrives with the 18 inch lid and the base outlet the sheet lists, which is what most buyers actually want, and it is the tank to take when you would rather not cut a new tank on site. The black one in the same shell is listed at 140 pounds against this tank's 110, both figures as the sheet gives them, and black is the wall chosen when daylight must stay off the contents. Either side of the shell sit two water tanks on the same 48 inch base: the 500 gallon SII-32669 in green at 73 inches and 95 pounds, and the 750 gallon SII-32441 in white at 106 inches and 117 pounds, which is the one to look at when the ceiling allows another two and a half feet and you would rather buy height than floor. • The pump path: the outlet field on this sheet reads 2, with no inch mark, where the leg tanks in the same family list 2 inches; we print the field as it stands and confirm the fitting on your part before it ships. The layout it deserves is the same either way. Put the pump below the base outlet on its own base, with a short falling run into the suction and the first bend clear of the fitting, and the 75 inch column keeps it flooded practically to the end of the draw. This is the one tank in this batch where a metering pump can hold prime between calls without fighting for it.
• Gravity feed: six feet three inches of standing liquid over the base is enough to feed a mixer, a hose or a small dosing loop with the pump off, which is usually the reason an upright was specified in the first place. Isolation valve at the fitting, flexible connector next, then a union or flange a short way downstream so a valve is changed without touching the tank fitting.
• Protection: a cleanable strainer ahead of the pump, and a low level float or probe that stops it with liquid still over the outlet. On a 48 inch base the level falls quickly near the bottom, so a run-dry stop earns its place.
• Access: an 18 inch lid at 75 inches, which is above a person's reach from the floor. Bring the fill to a coupling at working level rather than lifting a hose over the top, use a step or a platform with a rail when the lid has to come off, and keep the vent path clear at all times; a sealed top and a pump drawing will pull an upright wall inwards.
• Service limit: 120 F / 48 C, the only limit this sheet publishes.

Nothing rigid is bolted to the wall and no pipe is set in concrete right up to the base, because an upright grows and shrinks with temperature and with every fill, and the base fitting is where that movement lands. The valve rides on its own support off the pad. Where the site freezes, trace or insulate the valve and the first run of pipe and let the body take ice from the top down.
