10,500 gallons in sulfuric acid resin at 1.9 specific gravity
The Snyder 5330000N30 is a white high density linear polyethylene vertical chemical storage tank, 142 inches across and 169 inches tall, holding 10,500 gallons at 4,000 pounds. Its wall is rated for a specific gravity of 1.9, or 166,383 pounds of contents against 87,570 for water, and it is molded in the N30 resin Snyder specifies for concentrated sulfuric acid, the heaviest and most aggressive liquid a polyethylene tank is asked to hold, at two tanker loads. An 18 inch threaded, vented manway on top, and it ships as oversize freight.

Two tankers of acid on one slab
Concentrated sulfuric acid weighs nearly twice what water does and attacks the wall of an ordinary linear polyethylene tank from the inside, at the surface and in the vapor space above the liquid. Snyder's N30 resin is compounded for that service, so a tank in it is sized for the acid's weight and its chemistry together, and 4,000 pounds of resin is what that takes at 10,500 gallons. The list below is the resin's rated chemistry; check the liquid at its concentration in the chemical compatibility database. A single wall tank of regulated chemical needs a berm sized to its volume; the Snyder Captor 110 percent containment comparison covers when a double wall tank is the cleaner answer than a basin, and at this volume the basin is the size of a room. The tank sizing calculator sizes the volume to feed rate and delivery interval, and the tank sizing guide covers the reserve; acid expands more than water with temperature, so the reserve includes freeboard.
Grades on the 142 x 169 inch tank, and the sizes beside it
| Part | Gallons | Diameter x height | Empty weight |
|---|---|---|---|
| 5330000N30 (this tank, sulfuric grade, 1.9 SG) | 10,500 | 142 x 169 in | 4,000 lb |
| 5330100N45 (1.9 SG) | 10,500 | 142 x 169 in | 4,000 lb |
| 5330000N45 (1.9 SG, ASTM certified) | 10,500 | 142 x 169 in | 3,100 lb |
| 5330000N43 (1.5 SG, ASTM certified) | 10,500 | 142 x 169 in | 2,500 lb |
| 5330100N39 (1.35 SG) | 10,500 | 142 x 169 in | 2,500 lb |
| 1006400N52 (double wall, 1.9 SG) | 8,700 | 142 x 197 in | 6,000 lb |
| 5350000N33 | 12,000 | 142 x 198 in | 3,100 lb |
The 5330100N45 is the general 1.9 wall at this tank's weight, and the certified 5330000N45 is the lighter 1.9 wall for chemicals that do not attack a linear resin. The N43 and N39 are the 1.5 and 1.35 walls, 1,500 pounds lighter, for coagulants and brines. The 1006400N52 is the double wall for a site with no berm, 8,700 gallons at 197 inches, and the 5350000N33 is the 12,000 gallon step up at 198 inches.

Openings, sampling and labels
- Access: 18 inch threaded, vented manway, 169 inches up; fill through a dip tube, vent to a scrubber or outdoors, never into a room, and size the vent for a tanker's unload rate.
- Outlet: specify an acid-rated bulkhead fitting and gasket when ordering; a flanged transition, an expansion joint, and a valve supported off the slab.
- Service limit: 120 F / 48 C.
Three practices make a bulk acid tank a safe one. Choose the level sender for concentrated acid with the level gauge selection guide; a radar sender read at ground level keeps everyone off the platform. Draw samples that represent the tank and not its stratified top, per the bulk tank chemical sampling protocol. And label it so the fire inspector and the workplace inspector read the same thing, NFPA 704 diamond and GHS pictograms reconciled as the tank label and signage compliance guide describes. Acid draws water from the air and heats when it does, so the manway stays closed and the vent carries a drying trap. Never add water to the tank; dilution is done elsewhere, water first.
The slab and the straps
Full, the tank loads a 142 inch circle to 166,383 pounds at the rating, and a rotationally molded floor bears on the whole pad, so the pad is what matters: an engineered slab in full contact under the entire floor, screeded flat, with no pipe trench or drain crossing under it, inside a berm sized to the tank. The empty tank is strapped against wind, and the straps go slack once the tank is full and its own weight anchors it. The platform at the manway stands on its own footings, not hung from the tank, and the eyewash and the shower are within reach of the unloading point.
Fill day
The truck's pump outruns the manway vent, so size the vent for the unload rate or give the fill its own top bulkhead and vent line. The fill pipe runs to the floor so the acid does not free-fall and fume. The first delivery into a new tank is watched from start to finish, with the slab edge and the outlet fitting checked as the level climbs, and every delivery after that goes in the log with a date and a strength; at this size the delivery log doubles as the inventory.
Put to use
Sulfuric acid bulk storage for pH control at large water and wastewater plants, regeneration acid at a demineralizer, pickling and plating acid at industrial scale, and any two-tanker vessel of concentrated acid at a site an inspector visits. Acid only, labeled for both inspectors at once.

How it ships
At 142 inches across and 169 inches long on the deck the 5330000N30 is oversize freight (NMFC 156600) on a flatbed at a lane rate, with an escort on most routes; the freight cost estimator prices the move to your ZIP, and the price on this page is before freight. A crane sets 4,000 pounds upright on the slab. Water-fill it once to the manway, hold it, then drain and dry completely before the first acid delivery; water left in an acid tank is the first mistake. A strap that is checked once a season is a strap that holds; put it on the same calendar as the gutters.
