The Snyder Industries 12,500-gallon HDPE vertical liquid storage tank is one of the largest single polyethylene vessels in our vertical line: 198 inches tall (16.5 ft) on a 142-inch outside diameter (11.83 ft). It is molded in white polyethylene, carries an ASTM-certified build, and is rated to a 1.9 specific gravity. If you are sizing a primary supply reservoir, a fire-water store, or an agricultural bulk tank, this is the kind of vertical storage tank that anchors the system.
Will it work for your installation?
At 12,500 gallons, a full charge of water weighs 104,250 pounds, and the 1.9 specific gravity rating supports a maximum rated contents weight of 198,075 pounds. That gap between full-water weight and the rated ceiling is real engineering margin, but it is also the number your pad and your structural review have to answer to: plan the foundation around the loaded weight, not the empty tank. The 1.9 SG build also gives you latent headroom beyond water — the same wall is engineered to hold denser liquids up to 1.9 specific gravity (verify chemical compatibility separately before any non-water service). For a footprint this size, a properly designed concrete pad is not optional; our concrete pad sizing walkthrough using the ACI 360R-10 framework covers the boundary where ACI 318 takes over. To confirm working volume against your draw and refill cycle, run the numbers through our Tank Sizing Calculator and read the Tank Sizing Guide.
Fitting schedule and access
The technical drawing on this page details the full fitting layout. Verify each one against your inlet, outlet, vent, and drain plan before you set the tank:
- Flange
- Flat fitting
- 18-inch PE threaded and vented fitting
- 12-inch by 30-inch fitting
- Bulkhead (BH)
- Manway with 15-inch access opening
Interior access for inspection, cleaning, and (with confined-space procedures) entry is through the 15-inch manway opening, so confirm your inspection and cleaning gear fits that constraint before you commit. On a vessel this tall the static head at the base is significant, so confirm the bulkhead fitting gasket and the threaded/vented fitting seal are compatible with your liquid and properly torqued before filling — those seals are the real leak path. Because the headspace on a tall vertical tank stays vapor-saturated, our piece on HDPE tank wall thickness at the vapor-saturated headspace and the ASTM D1998 sizing logic explains where premature failures originate and why liquid-side inspection misses them.
The mistake to avoid
The most common error on a tank this size is under-building the foundation or treating the 1.9 specific gravity rating as a license to ignore loaded weight. The specific gravity rating tells you the density of contents the wall is engineered to hold; it does not change the fact that you are placing 104,250 pounds of water on your pad when full. If this tank is going into fire-protection duty, size the reservoir to your NFPA 22 requirement and account for freeze protection in cold climates — our fire-water reservoir design guide walks through that sizing discipline.
