12,500 gallons at 1.9 specific gravity, ASTM certified

The Snyder 5350000N45 is a white polyethylene vertical liquid storage tank, 142 inches across and 198 inches tall, holding 12,500 gallons at 4,200 pounds. Its wall is rated for a specific gravity of 1.9, or 198,075 pounds of contents against 104,250 for water, the chemical-grade wall for ferric chloride at strength, concentrated acids and the heavy brines at two and a half tanker loads, and it is sold with ASTM certification for jobs that need the paper. An 18 inch threaded, vented manway on top, a 3 year warranty, and it ships as oversize freight.

The full-density wall at plant scale

A 1.9 specific gravity wall is sized for a liquid nearly twice as dense as water, and 4,200 pounds of resin is what that takes at 12,500 gallons, 1,100 pounds more than the certified 1.5 wall in this same shell. The certification is against ASTM D1998; the HDPE tank wall thickness guide explains the sizing logic and why a wall this tall is inspected from the top, in the headspace. Full, it puts 198,075 pounds on a 142 inch circle at the rating: an engineered slab in full contact under the entire floor, per the concrete pad sizing guide, screeded flat, inside a berm sized to the tank, with the empty tank strapped against wind and the manway reached from a fixed platform on its own footings. The tank sizing calculator turns feed rate and delivery interval into a volume, and the tank sizing guide covers the reserve.

The N43 is the certified 1.5 wall for coagulants and brines that never approach this density, the N40 is cross-linked polyethylene for oxidizers, and the C37-BLACK is the general-grade black water tank, all 1,100 pounds lighter. The 32074 is the lighter 12,000 gallon water tank at nearly this height, and the 3030100C26 holds 15,000 gallons on a 165 inch base 14 inches shorter.

Ports

  • Access: 18 inch threaded, vented manway, 198 inches up; a dip tube for the fill, an outdoor vent on acid and caustic, and vent capacity to match the tanker.
  • Outlet: tell us the chemical when ordering and the bulkhead fitting is matched to it; a flanged transition, an expansion joint, and a valve supported off the slab.
  • Service limit: 120 F / 48 C.
  • Listing: ASTM certification.

Choose the level sender for the chemical and read it at ground level so nobody climbs for a number; keep the manway closed against vapor loss, and shade the tank where the chemical is light-sensitive. A single wall tank of regulated chemical stands inside a berm sized to it. In a freezing climate insulate or drain the outlet valve and the first run of pipe.

Filling from a tanker

Unloading a tanker pushes air out faster than a stock manway vent can pass it; size the vent for that rate, or fill through a dedicated top bulkhead vented separately. The fill pipe reaches the floor, so the liquid enters below the surface instead of free-falling and foaming. Diluting a dense chemical makes heat, so a batch is built water first and chemical second, never the reverse. The first delivery into a new tank is watched from start to finish, with the slab edge and the outlet fitting checked as the level climbs, and from then on each load is logged by date and strength; with this much in the tank, the log is the stock count.

Where you will find one

Ferric and other dense coagulants at a large plant with a berm, heavy brine at plant scale, dense process chemicals delivered by tanker, and water where the buyer wants the heaviest certified wall for a long life outdoors, including a fire reserve of the kind the fire-water reservoir design guide describes. One liquid per tank, labeled.

Shipping the tank

At 142 inches across and 198 inches long on the deck the 5350000N45 is oversize freight (NMFC 156600) on a flatbed at a lane rate, with an escort on most routes; the freight cost estimator prices it for your ZIP, and the listed price is before freight. A crane sets 4,200 pounds upright on the slab. Water-fill it once to the manway, hold it, check the outlet fitting, and keep the certification paperwork with the project file. Walk the base after the first hard rain; a pad that shifts shows it at the edge first.

Freight and documents
