The Snyder 1830400N52 is an opaque white high density linear polyethylene vertical liquid storage tank, 72 inches across and 87 inches tall, holding 1,300 gallons at 320 pounds. Its wall is rated for a specific gravity of 1.9, or 20,600 pounds of contents against 10,842 for water, the chemical-grade wall for ferric chloride at strength, concentrated acids and the heavy brines, and the opaque resin keeps light off the contents the way a black tank does while staying white enough to show a shadow line of the level in daylight. The six foot base stands under a standard eave with the 18 inch threaded, vented manway reached from a step. It ships as standard LTL freight.

Five totes of chemical, out of the light
Light drives the breakdown of hypochlorite, of some coagulants and of most of the organic chemicals a plant stores; a standard white wall lets some of it through, a black wall lets none through and hides the level, and the opaque white is the compromise Snyder molds for chemical service, dark inside and readable outside. On top of that the 1.9 wall is sized for a liquid nearly twice as dense as water, so the dense coagulants and acids are covered as well as the light-sensitive ones. Full, it puts 20,600 pounds on a 72 inch circle at the rating: a slab in full contact, per the concrete pad sizing guide, inside a berm or a containment tub sized to the tank; a 72 inch base fits a standard containment tub and stands without a strap on a flat slab. Ports and access
- Access: 18 inch threaded, vented manway, 87 inches up; vent outside on acid, caustic and hypochlorite service, fill through a dip tube, and size the vent for the delivery pump.
- Outlet: order the bulkhead fitting in the material the chemical calls for; a flanged transition and a valve supported off the floor, in the material the chemical calls for.
Choose the level sender for the chemical and read it at ground level; an opaque wall shows a shadow line in daylight, not a number. Keep the manway closed against vapor loss. Label it so the fire inspector and the workplace inspector read the same thing. In a cold climate the outlet valve and the first run of pipe are insulated or drained.
Receiving a delivery
A delivery truck's pump can push air out faster than a stock vent can pass it, so the vent is sized for the unload rate or the fill goes through a dedicated top bulkhead with its own vent line. A fill pipe to the floor keeps caustic or coagulant from free-falling and foaming. A dense liquid heats when water is added to it, so a batch tank is filled with water before the chemical, never after. The first load into a new tank gets watched end to end, eyes on the slab edge and the outlet fitting while the level comes up, and each delivery after it is logged with its date and strength; for hypochlorite the log is also the turnover schedule.
Typical duty
Hypochlorite and light-sensitive coagulants at a small plant, ferric and other dense coagulants under an eave with a containment tub, acid feed for pH control, and, with water in it, a cistern that stays clear or one cell of a small fire reserve of the kind the fire-water reservoir design guide describes.
