The Snyder Industries 13800 gallon vertical liquid storage tank is built for bulk water and high-density liquid storage where capacity, structural margin, and freeze-resilience matter. Molded in white HDPE on a 165-inch round footprint and standing 184 inches tall, it carries an ASTM D1998 specific-gravity rating of 1.9 - the spec that does the heavy lifting here: it tells you the wall is engineered for liquids substantially denser than water, not just the 8.34 lb/gallon water case. This is the higher-density-service member of the Snyder vertical storage tank line.

Will it work for your site?

Full of water this tank holds 13,800 gallons at roughly 115,092 lb at the base ring, so the pad and soil-bearing question comes first. At its 1.9 SG rating the maximum rated contents weight climbs to about 218,675 lb - the number to design the foundation around if you ever plan to store anything heavier than water. The 165 x 165 inch footprint and 184-inch height define both the pad and the headroom for fill plumbing and venting at the top. Note that nameplate capacity is not usable fill volume: freeboard for thermal expansion and liquid density must be deducted, walked through in our Snyder Captor freeboard sizing per ASTM D1998 guide. To size the tank to actual daily and reserve demand rather than to a round number, run your numbers through the Tank Sizing Calculator and the Tank Sizing Guide.

Fittings and fitting package

The fitting package - inlet, outlet, manway, and vent - is configured to order on a tank this size. Call 866-418-1777 to spec threads, gaskets, and bulkhead or flange fittings before the pad is poured. If you are storing fertilizer, brine, or another liquid heavier than water that the 1.9 SG wall is built to carry, confirm chemical compatibility and gasket material - EPDM, Viton, or Buna - for your specific liquid before ordering, since gasket selection follows the chemistry, not the tank.

The mistake to avoid

The 1.9 SG rating is a ceiling, not a license to skip foundation engineering. The most common error on a tank this large is sizing the concrete pad and subgrade for the empty tank or for water weight alone, then under-building it. At full water load you are placing over 57 tons on the pad; at the rated SG you are near 109 tons. Build the foundation to the rated load case and verify the subgrade - our Concrete Pad Sizing for Above-Ground Polyethylene Tanks guide walks the ACI 360R-10 framework and the ACI 318 boundary for exactly this decision. The second mistake is treating wall thickness as uniform; thinning at the vapor-saturated headspace is where premature failures originate, covered in our HDPE tank wall thickness and ASTM D1998 sizing deep-dive.

Fire-water, cold-climate, and delivery

At 13,800 gallons this tank is a candidate for rural and remote fire-water reservoir duty. If that is your application, size the reserve and plan freeze protection against NFPA 22 discipline rather than guesswork - our Fire-Water Reservoir Tank Design guide covers the sizing and cold-climate engineering. On the practical side, at 184 inches tall on a 165-inch round footprint, confirm crane and offload access plus any gate or door clearances at the site before delivery. See the technical drawing on this page for dimensional detail.

This tank ships LTL freight from the Snyder plant in Washington Court House, OH, quoted live to your ZIP - and a tank this large typically moves as a dedicated oversize LTL load, so confirm lead time and site access at quote.
