2,500 gallons in the heavy-duty cross-linked wall, rated 1.9

Nearly nine feet tall on a seven and a half foot circle, the Snyder 5090000N48 is the heavy tank in the 2,500 gallon shell: 90 inches across, 107 inches tall, 560 pounds empty where the other tanks in the shell are 450. It is black cross-linked polyethylene rated for a specific gravity of 1.9 on its sheet, which is 39,615 pounds of contents against 20,850 pounds of water, the wall for concentrated acid, ferric and the dense brines. An 18 inch threaded, vented manway at eight feet eleven inches, a service limit of 140 F / 60 C, a 3 year warranty, and freight at class 300 from Lincoln, Nebraska or Philippi, West Virginia.

Buy the 560 pound tank when the liquid is heavy

Four tanks share this shell, and the way to tell them apart is the liquid. If it is nearly twice the weight of water, this is the tank: the extra resin in its wall is what carries 39,615 pounds at the full height without creeping. If it is hypochlorite or a fertilizer solution, the 5090000N46 is the cross-linked tank in the same shell and color at 450 pounds, rated as its own sheet says, and the C34 and C37-BLACK are the other black tanks at that weight, each rated as its own sheet says; the C26 is the natural one for a liquid that does not mind light. Buying the heavy wall for a light liquid wastes freight; buying a light wall for a dense one is how a tank bulges at the base. A 2,500 gallon tank is also a size a small plant can turn over before a chemical loses strength, which matters more with the dense coagulants than with anything else. Full at the rating it puts 39,615 pounds on a 90 inch circle, so the pad is engineered per the concrete pad sizing guide, level and in full contact, inside a berm sized to the tank where the liquid is regulated, with straps to structure before the first fill. The black wall keeps light off the liquid, runs warmer in the sun than white, and hides the level, so a sender read at the ground is the gauge. Whether 2,500 gallons covers the draw between deliveries is a question for the tank sizing calculator; the reserve and the headspace a dense chemical needs as it warms are in the tank sizing guide.

Everything on the 90 inch base at 107 inches is the same tank in a different wall; the weight column is the only honest way to tell the heavy one from the rest. Step down the base and the 5050000C26 holds 2,000 gallons at 88 inches for a roof this tank cannot clear; step out and the 8390000C26 holds 2,650 gallons on a 102 inch base at 97 inches, ten inches shorter than this one, for a site with floor to spare.

The manway is the opening the sheet lists

  • Vent and fill: the outlet field on this sheet reads "1 Manway / Lid", and we print it as the sheet gives it: the 18 inch threaded, vented manway is the opening the sheet names. Fill it through a dip tube to the floor so a dense liquid does not fall nine feet, and size the vent to the tanker's pump, because a delivery pump pushes air out faster than a lid vent passes it. The vent runs outdoors on a liquid that fumes and is screened on every liquid.
  • Headspace: stop at the shoulder. A dense chemical expands as it warms and the headspace is where the room comes from; the wall above the liquid line is inspected with a light from the manway at every opening.
  • Outlet: name the liquid at order and a bulkhead fitting is specified and matched to it, gasket and bolting included, with a flexible connector to hard pipe and the first valve on its own support.
  • Service limit: 140 F / 60 C.

Nine feet of a liquid nearly twice the weight of water is a real head on any fitting at the base, and the pipe run must never carry that load back into the wall: a rigid line bolted straight to the bulkhead puts every bit of thermal movement and pump vibration into the tank. Mount the pump below the outlet so gravity primes it, fit a low-level float so it never pumps air, keep the lid shut between deliveries, and name the one chemical on the wall. Where it freezes, the valve and the first pipe run get trace heat or insulation; the body takes ice from the top down.

Nine feet of dense chemical on a seven and a half foot circle

Ferric and the other dense coagulants at a small water plant, concentrated acid at a plating shop or an industrial plant, brine at a food plant, and a heavy fertilizer solution at a co-op. The cross-linked versus linear polyethylene guide sets out when the cross-linked wall is worth specifying; a dense, aggressive liquid at nine feet of head is the case it was written for. A fire reserve belongs in a tank bought for water, which the fire-water reservoir design guide covers; this wall will hold water but was not bought for it.

Permitted freight from Lincoln or Philippi

The 5090000N48 ships from Lincoln, Nebraska or Philippi, West Virginia, whichever is nearer, as freight at class 300 as the sheet lists it; at 90 inches across and 107 inches long on the deck it rides on a flatbed, and the freight cost estimator prices the lane to your ZIP, with the listed price before freight. A forklift with long forks sets 560 pounds on the pad with the forks under the body, never through the manway, and the straps to structure go on the same day. Fill it with water to the shoulder once and hold it, watching the pad edge and the base fitting, then drain and dry it before the chemical goes in. Nobody leaves the pad during the first delivery; watch it from the first gallon to the last. A photo of the tank on its pad, full, on day one is worth keeping; it is the baseline every later inspection is compared against.
