Three plants, so the lane is short

Chowchilla for the West Coast, Lincoln for the Plains and the Mountain West, Philippi for the Atlantic states, the Southeast and the Ohio Valley: wherever the pad is, one of the three is close, and the order goes to it. The eight foot height is the other reason to buy it: the manway clears a 96 inch ceiling, so this is a 3,000 that goes inside a standard chemical room, where the taller 3,000s on a 90 inch base do not. Full at the rating it puts 47,538 pounds, nearly twenty-four tons, on the 102 inch circle, and a rotationally molded floor bears on the whole slab, so the pad is engineered per the concrete pad sizing guide, level and in full contact, inside a berm sized to 110 percent where the liquid is regulated. Low and wide, it has the lowest center of gravity in its family and needs the least strapping, but it gets strapped anyway while it is empty, because a black tank grows and shrinks a little every day in the sun and the strap is what holds it between fills. The black wall keeps light off the load and hides the level; a sender read at the ground is the gauge. Low and wide, or tall and narrow: the 3,000s

The other 3,000s stand on a 90 inch base at 127 inches, over ten feet: the 5130000C34 and C37-BLACK are the black polyethylene tanks at 575 pounds, each rated as its own sheet says, and the 5130000N33 is the cross-linked tank rated 1.35 at 510 pounds for liquids near water. This tank trades a foot of floor for two and a half feet of height and carries the 1.9 cross-linked wall, which none of the tall three does; it is the one for a dense, aggressive liquid under a low ceiling. The 8390000C26 is the low 2,650 on the same 102 inch base, one inch taller at 97 inches, in the polyethylene wall; the 32288 is a 3,500 gallon water tank on a 96 inch base at 125 inches for the site that stores water and needs no chemical wall.

A lid you reach from a step

• Access: 18 inch threaded, vented manway at 96 inches, eight feet off the pad, reached from a two-step platform with a hand on the rim; no ladder, no fixed platform. Fill through a dip tube to the floor, vent outdoors on a liquid that fumes, size the vent to the delivery pump.
• Outlet: the sheet's outlet field reads 23, a bare number with no size, thread or material on it; we print it as given. Name the liquid at order and the bulkhead fitting, gasket and bolting are specified to it, with a flexible connector to hard pipe and the first valve on its own support.
• Service limit: 140 F / 60 C.

Because the lid is within reach, this is the tank people open too often, and every opening lets vapor out and moisture in. Keep the lid on between deliveries, put the level on a sender and the sample on a tap in the outlet line, and open the manway for inspection with a light on the headspace band. Eight feet of head is less than the tall tanks give, so the transfer pump goes below the outlet where gravity primes it, and a low-level float stops it before it draws air. The wall carries the name of the one chemical inside. Where it freezes, trace or wrap the valve and the first pipe run; the body ices from the top down without harm.

Small chemical feeds with heavy contents

A sulfuric acid or ferric day tank at a water plant with an eight foot chemical room, a dense brine at a small food plant, a caustic or acid tank at a metals shop, and the process chemicals at a plant that stores in the sun and wants them dark. Six hundred and sixty pounds, class 300

The 7410000N48 ships from Chowchilla, California, Lincoln, Nebraska or Philippi, West Virginia, whichever is nearest, as freight at class 300 as the sheet lists it; at 102 inches across and 96 inches long on the deck it is a permitted load, the listed price is before freight, and the freight cost estimator prices the lane from the plant that will mold it. A forklift with long forks sets 660 pounds on the pad with straps under the body, never through the manway, and the straps to structure go on before the truck leaves. Fill it with water to the manway once and hold it, watching the pad edge and the outlet fitting, then drain and dry before the chemical arrives; after that the log takes the date and strength of every load. Save the pallet, and look at the vent screen every time the lid comes off; it is the cheapest part on the tank and the one that saves it. Chalk the full-water line on the outside after the first fill; it is the level every later reading gets checked against.
