Seven hundred and ten pounds of reason

The weight is the wall. Every other 3,000 in this shell is listed at 575 or 510 pounds; this one is 710, and the difference is resin put into the wall so it can carry a liquid nearly twice as dense as water at the full height. That is the reason to buy it over the 5130000N46, the cross-linked tank in the same shell and color that we list separately, rated as its own sheet says, and over the C34 and C37-BLACK, the other two black tanks in the shell. If the liquid is dense, this is the one; if it is not, the lighter walls do the job and cost less to ship. Cross-linked polyethylene is the wall Snyder puts on its heavy chemical duty, and the sheet rates this one 1.9. Full at the rating the tank puts 47,538 pounds on a 90 inch circle, the heaviest floor load in the family, so the pad is engineered per the concrete pad sizing guide, level and in full contact, inside a berm sized to the tank where the liquid is regulated. Empty, ten and a half feet of polyethylene on a seven and a half foot base is a sail, so it is strapped to structure before the first fill. The black wall keeps light off a liquid that light spoils, runs warmer in the sun than white, and hides the level; a sender read at the ground is the gauge. One 90 inch shell, four walls, and the neighbors

Read the shell top to bottom by weight. The N48 at 710 pounds is the heavy chemical wall; the N46 at 575 is the cross-linked wall for a lighter liquid; the C34 and C37-BLACK at 575 are the other black tanks, each rated as its own sheet says; the N33 at 510 is rated 1.35 by its name. Outside the shell, the 8390000C26 lays 2,650 gallons down to 97 inches on a 102 inch base for a low roof, and the 32288 is the white 3,500 on a 96 inch base at 125 inches for water and other liquids that do not mind light.

The vent carries the fill rate, not the lid

• Vent and fill: an 18 inch threaded, vented manway, 127 inches up. A dense chemical arrives by tanker, and a tanker pump displaces air faster than a lid vent passes it, so the vent is sized to the delivery pump before the first load, and it runs outdoors on anything that fumes. The fill goes down a dip tube to the floor, not over the rim, so a heavy liquid does not fall ten feet and splash the headspace wall.
• Headspace: stop the fill at the shoulder. A dense liquid expands as it warms, and the wall above the liquid line is the band that vapor works on; inspect it with a light from the manway, not by feel.
• Outlet: the outlet field on the sheet reads 15, and we print it as the sheet gives it. Name the liquid at order and the bulkhead fitting, gasket and bolting are matched to it, with a flanged transition, a flexible connector to hard pipe, and the first valve carried on its own support.
• Service limit: 140 F / 60 C.

Ten and a half feet of a liquid nearly twice the weight of water is a strong head on the outlet fitting, which is one more reason the first valve sits on a support and the connector between fitting and pipe is flexible: pump vibration and pipe expansion must not reach the wall. Mount the pump below the outlet so gravity primes it, and fit a low-level float so it never pumps air. The manway stays closed between deliveries, the wall names the one chemical inside, and the vent screen is checked at every opening. Where winters freeze, the valve and the first pipe run get trace heat or insulation; the body takes ice from the top down.

Dense chemicals at 3,000 gallons

Ferric and the other dense coagulants at a water plant, concentrated acid at an industrial plant, brine at a food plant, and a heavy fertilizer solution at a co-op that stores it in the sun. The 5130000N48 ships from Lincoln, Nebraska or Philippi, West Virginia, whichever is nearer, as freight at class 300 as the sheet lists it; at 90 inches across and 127 inches long on the deck it rides on a flatbed, and the freight cost estimator prices the lane to your ZIP, with the listed price before freight. A crane or a forklift with long forks stands 710 pounds up with straps under the body, never through the manway, and the straps to structure go on before the crane leaves. Water first: fill it to the shoulder, hold it, watch the pad edge and the outlet fitting, then drain and dry it before the chemical goes in. After that the log takes the date and strength of every load, and the strap tension gets a look a week after the first fill.
