Linear polyethylene softens with heat and creeps under sustained load; cross-linked polyethylene is molded with a catalyst that ties the polymer chains into one network, so it holds its shape under a dense liquid, resists the stress cracking oxidizers cause, and tolerates heat. The trade is that it cannot be plastic-welded, so any added port is a bulkhead through a drilled hole, decided before the tank is filled. The certification is against ASTM D1998, and 560 pounds of resin is what a 1.9 wall takes at this volume, the same as the certified linear 1.9 tank in this shell. The N45 and N43 are the certified linear tanks at 1.9 and 1.5 specific gravity, for chemicals that do not attack a linear wall, at a lower price; the N49 is the linear 1.9 wall in black, and the C34 the general grade. The 5050000C26 is the 2,000 gallon step down on this base, and the 8390000C26 lays 2,650 gallons down to 97 inches on a 102 inch base.

What is fitted

• Access: 18 inch threaded, vented manway, 107 inches up; vent outside on hypochlorite and acid service, fill through a dip tube, and size the vent for a delivery truck's unload rate.
• Outlet: specify the bulkhead fitting for the chemical when ordering, and decide any added port before the tank is filled, because XLPE cannot be welded; hard pipe joined to the bulkhead through a flexible connector, valve on a bracket of its own.
• Service limit: 120 F / 48 C.
• Listing: ASTM certification.

Hypochlorite is hard on wetted parts, so the level sender is chosen for the chemical; a low-level switch protects the pump. Shade the tank; hypochlorite degrades with heat and time, so it is bought at short turnover. The dosing pump sits below the outlet so it primes by gravity, and keep the manway closed against vapor loss. Put a regulated chemical in a single wall tank and the berm around it has to hold all of it.
