The widest opening in the leg tank range

Put this tank beside its own family and one number stands out. The small leg tanks carry a lid you can get a hand through and the 2000 gallon tanks are not much better; this one carries 24 inches. That is the difference between an opening you can put an arm and a light through and an opening a person can get into, and on a horizontal body it matters more than it does anywhere else, because a horizontal tank cannot be drained to the last inch through a side outlet and whatever settles in it settles along 155 inches of floor. If the product leaves a residue, if the tank will ever change service, if somebody has to inspect or clean the inside rather than take its condition on trust, the 24 inch lid is the reason to buy this tank rather than a tall one of similar volume. Its own twin makes the same point from the other side: the sheet lists the SII-8470000C26 at the identical 155 by 82 by 70 inches and the identical 1014 pounds, and offers no difference between the two beyond the part number, so we do not invent one. What the size does ask for is a mount worth the tank. Legs bear along their full length on rails or a slab running the whole 155 inches and in full contact, never on blocks at the ends, and 21684 pounds of water comes down through them. Straps cross the body, padded, and get re-tensioned once it has been full. With no baffle inside, a part-full load moves hard on an 82 inch wide body. 2600 between the 2000 and the 3000

The interesting comparison is not the twin, it is the 3000. The SII-7500000C37 holds 3000 gallons in a shorter, wider, taller body, 142 by 92 by 76 inches, and the sheet lists it at 1010 pounds against this tank's 1014, which is what the sheet says and not something we will explain. So if the pad is short and wide, look at the 3000; if the pad is long and the height is capped at 70 inches, this is the tank. Downwards, the 2000 gallon SII-1002300C37 is 142 by 84 by 55 inches at 700 pounds, a good deal lower and lighter, which is the buy when something has to pass over the top of the tank or when the volume is genuinely all you need. The SII-8470000C26 is this tank's dimensional match at the same weight, and the choice between them comes down to the part number your specification calls for rather than to anything on the sheet. Within the four, this is the long, 70 inch tall 2600 with the largest access opening.

Twenty-four inches of access, then a 3 inch outlet

• Vent: the sheet gives a 24 inch lid and says nothing about a vent in it, which on the biggest tank here is the item to settle first. A 3 inch outlet on 2600 gallons moves liquid fast enough that a closed body will find the air somewhere, and the somewhere is the wall. Specify a vented lid or a breather sized to the transfer rate, and keep the screen in it clear.
• Headspace: 2600 gallons is the rated volume and the sheet publishes no separate fill figure. Leave the liquid room to expand under a lid that is 70 inches up, and treat the last inches of freeboard as insurance rather than as capacity.
• Access: 24 inches is enough to inspect and clean the inside of a 155 inch body properly, which is the reason this tank exists in a range where everything smaller gets a hand-sized opening. Anyone opening it works under whatever confined space discipline your site requires, and nobody goes in on a tank that has not been emptied, washed and ventilated.
• Outlet: one 3 inch outlet, as the sheet lists it, and no inlet listed, so the lid is the fill point. Three inches will empty a body this long without the tail of the transfer crawling; plumb it low, flexible at the first joint, with the first valve carried on its own support off the pad.
• Limits: 120 F / 48 C, and 41200 pounds of contents at a specific gravity of 1.9 as the sheet gives it. The sheet publishes no warranty term.

On a tank this size the fittings are not the risk, the routine is. A horizontal body drains to the outlet and no further, so build in a way to get the last of the product out and a way to see whether anything is sitting on the floor. Put the level reading where the operator stands rather than asking anyone to climb to a lid 70 inches up. Keep traffic away from the outlet with a kerb or a bollard. Re-check the fitting after the first full fill and after the first freeze and thaw, and keep a spare gasket on the shelf rather than on a purchase order.

Bulk liquid on a pad where the tank gets cleaned

Two and a half thousand gallons in a low, long body is bought where height is capped and the tank is expected to be serviced: bulk supply at a blend plant or a shop, a wash and rinse reservoir feeding a line, mix water for a batching operation, a skid-mounted supply at a pump site, and nurse duty for equipment that will not clear a tall tank. The 24 inch lid makes it the sensible choice for any product that leaves a residue or any tank that changes service, because the inside can actually be inspected. Three plants for a 1014 pound oversize load

Chowchilla, California, Lincoln, Nebraska and Marked Tree, Arkansas are the three plants on this sheet, which is unusual for a tank this size and useful, because on an oversize load the lane is a bigger number than the class. The sheet gives the freight class as OVS with NMFC 156600, shipping at 155 inches by 82 inches by 70 inches: nearly thirteen feet long, close to seven feet wide and almost six feet tall, which is a permitted load rather than a rate off a table, and the 1014 pounds is the least of it.
