The Snyder Industries 3000 Gallon Plastic Horizontal Leg Tank is a transport-rated polyethylene haul tank built to carry liquid down the road, not just hold it in place. It measures 142 inches long by 92 inches wide by 76 inches high, riding on integrally molded legs with securing hoops that hold it to a skid, trailer, or pickup bed. Molded from white polyethylene to a 1.5 specific gravity rating, it carries a full water weight of roughly 25,020 lbs and a maximum rated contents weight of about 37,530 lbs. Plan the purchase around that loaded figure from the start: your trailer rating, hoop hardware, and tie-downs all have to be matched to a fully loaded 37,530 lb haul, not the empty shell.

Will this Snyder horizontal leg tank work for your haul?

This is a 3000-gallon horizontal leg tank, the workhorse format for moving water and ag liquids between the well, the field, and the spreader. The 1.5 specific gravity rating is the number that matters: it tells you the wall thickness is rated for liquids up to 1.5 times the density of water. Stay at or below that and the tank is working within spec. The 92 x 142 inch footprint is what you size your trailer or skid to, and because horizontal leg tanks are meant to ship full, the leg cradle and the securing hoops are doing the structural work of keeping that loaded mass located during transit. Request the OEM technical drawing for leg spacing, hoop locations, and outlet positions before you build or buy a frame. Not sure 3000 gallons is the right size for your route and refill cadence? Run the numbers with our Tank Sizing Calculator and the Tank Sizing Guide.

Chemical compatibility

This is a polyethylene tank rated at 1.5 specific gravity. Confirm whether this specific tank is HDLPE or cross-linked (XLPE) polyethylene with us before you commit it to any chemical service, since the two resins do not have identical chemical resistance and the rating governs which liquids it can safely carry. At the 1.5 SG rating, this tank is compatible with Acetic Acid (60%), Aluminum Sulfate (50%), Calcium Chloride (40%), DEF (32.5%), Ferrous Sulfate (20%), Magnesium Chloride (30%), Sodium Carbonate (30%), Urea Solution (50%), and Ozonated Water (up to 10 PPM). Match the fittings and gaskets to the chemical: most of these call for PVC fittings with EPDM gaskets, while DEF specifically needs 316 stainless steel fittings with EPDM, and Acetic Acid and Urea Solution run PP or PVC fittings with EPDM. Verify every selection against the OEM chemical-resistance chart, which is concentration- and temperature-specific, before filling.

Chemicals that need a higher-SG tank

Several common chemicals exceed what a 1.5 SG tank should carry and require a 1.9 specific gravity tank instead. If your service involves Ethylene Glycol, Ferric Chloride, Ferric Sulfate, Hydrochloric Acid, Hydrofluoric Acid, Hydrofluosilicic Acid, Hydrogen Peroxide, Peracetic Acid, Phosphoric Acid, Polyaluminum Chloride, Potassium Carbonate, Potassium Hydroxide, Propylene Glycol, Sodium Bisulfate, Sodium Bisulfite, Sodium Hypochlorite, Sodium Thiosulfate, Sulfuric Acid, or Zinc Orthophosphate, this 1.5 SG tank is not the right rating and you should step up to the 1.9 SG version. The gasket and fitting package gets more specific with the aggressive acids: Sulfuric Acid calls for CPVC fittings with Viton, Peracetic Acid needs 316 stainless steel with Aflas, and the other strong acids and Sodium Hypochlorite drive Viton seals rather than EPDM. If your liquid is in this group, do not order the 1.5 SG tank on this page; call us at 866-418-1777 to spec the correct 1.9 SG tank and seal package. Confirm the resin, SG, and seal selection on the linked pages and our full chemical compatibility reference: Ethylene Glycol, Ferric Chloride, Ferric Sulfate, Hydrochloric Acid, Hydrofluoric Acid, Hydrofluosilicic Acid, Hydrogen Peroxide, Peracetic Acid, Phosphoric Acid, Polyaluminum Chloride, Potassium Carbonate, Potassium Hydroxide, Propylene Glycol, Sodium Bisulfate, Sodium Bisulfite, Sodium Hypochlorite, Sodium Thiosulfate, Sulfuric Acid, and Zinc Orthophosphate.

The mistake to avoid

The number-one error on a 3000-gallon haul tank is treating the 1.5 SG rating as a suggestion and filling it with a heavier liquid, or under-building the trailer and tie-downs for a 37,530 lb loaded weight. Confirm the resin, stay at or under 1.5 SG, and size your frame and tie-downs to the full loaded mass, not the empty tank. For the regulatory and field side of hauling, our guides on applicator and leg tanks for fertilizer and DOT non-roadable trailer scope, loaf-style portable utility tanks and the 49 CFR 173.5 ag exemption, fertilizer-blend tank stratification, and Snyder Captor double-wall tanks for SPCC compliance cover the details that catch people out.
