Will it work for your application

The 1.9 SG rating is the number to plan around. Filled with plain water this cone bottom tank carries roughly 34,194 pounds; at its maximum rated contents it is built to handle about 64,969 pounds. Divide those out and the envelope confirms the rating - about 1.9 times the weight of water - so you can run liquids up to roughly 1.9x as dense as water without exceeding the wall and support design. A 50% ferric chloride load, near 1.5 SG, sits comfortably inside that envelope. One thing a careful engineer will catch: at 197 inches tall on a 90 x 90 inch footprint, this is a tall, narrow profile that has to sit elevated in a stand, so it is sensitive to off-center loading, wind, and seismic forces. Chemical compatibility

This is a crosslinked polyethylene (XLPE) tank rated to 1.9 specific gravity. Always verify your specific chemical, concentration, and temperature against the Snyder OEM chemical-resistance chart before service, since compatibility is concentration- and temperature-specific. Confirmed-compatible chemistries for this resin and SG rating include acetic acid (60%), aluminum sulfate 50%, calcium chloride 40%, DEF 32.5% (diesel exhaust fluid), ethylene glycol 100%, ferric chloride 50%, ferric sulfate 60%, ferrous sulfate 20%, hydrofluosilicic acid 26%, magnesium chloride 30%, polyaluminum chloride, potassium carbonate 50%, potassium hydroxide (saturated), propylene glycol, sodium carbonate 30%, sodium thiosulfate 40%, urea solution 50%, and ozonated water up to 10 PPM.

Fitting and gasket pairing

The tank resin is only half the build - your fittings and gaskets have to match the chemistry too. Most of the chemistries above pair with PVC fittings on EPDM gaskets, but three call for deviations from that default, and these are where most chemical cone tanks are spec'd wrong:

  • Hydrofluosilicic acid 26% - PP/PVC fitting with a Viton gasket, not EPDM.
  • DEF 32.5% - 316 stainless steel fitting, not PVC, on an EPDM gasket.
  • Propylene glycol - PP or 316SS fitting.

Acetic acid and urea solution also step up to PP/PVC fittings. The most common mistake is matching the resin to the chemical but leaving a default EPDM gasket where Viton is required, or a PVC fitting where stainless belongs - check each fitting and gasket against the Chemical Compatibility Database for your exact chemical and concentration.
