One rectangle to bund: where a 440 lands on a chemical room floor

Floor space is what this tank is sold on. Four hundred and forty gallons is roughly a fortnight of feed where a small day tank is a couple of days, and it holds that volume inside one 83 by 68 inch rectangle, which is one bund to build, one pad to level, one set of anchors to argue about and one thing to clean around. Compare that with the alternative a plant usually lives with, which is a row of drums or totes on pallets, each with its own transfer pump, its own spill risk and its own handling every week. At 69 inches the vessel stands under five feet ten inches, so it fits below the eave of an open-sided building, under most low headers, and inside a chemical room with a suspended ceiling; it is the version to buy when the roof is the constraint. The three feed stations share one 83 by 68 inch plan and differ only in what is under the tank, so the reason to take this one is height and weight: 69 inches and 350 pounds against 88 inches and 400 pounds for either stand version. That is the buy when the ceiling is low, when the fill point is fixed and a taller vessel would put the lid above it, when the pump is already below floor level or in a pit, or when the room simply does not have nineteen more inches to give. Take a stand part number instead when the pump has to sit under the draw-off on a flooded suction, when a drum or carboy has to fit beneath for a decant, or when you want to see the underside of the vessel on a walk-past. The low draw-off the sheet leaves unsized, under an 18 inch lid

• The draw-off first: this sheet publishes no outlet size and no inlet size. We print neither. Tell us the chemical and the flow when you order and we confirm the fitting, the gasket and the valve against Snyder's drawing for this exact part number, in writing, before anything ships.
• The valve and the first joint: carry the valve on its own support off the floor, put a flexible connector in the first joint, and put a union or a flange downstream of the valve so it can be changed without work on the tank fitting. A 350 pound vessel that weighs 3,670 pounds full of water settles a little on its base with every fill, and the fitting is where a rigid pipe run finds that out.
• Pump layout without a stand: at 69 inches the vessel sits on the floor, so the pump has to go beside it rather than beneath it. Keep the suction run short, falling toward the pump, with the first bend well clear of the fitting, and use a self priming pump or a foot valve where the layout gives you no help. A low level cut-out that stops the pump with liquid still over the draw-off is worth more here than anywhere else in this family.
• Filling and access: an 18 inch lid on top at 69 inches, reachable from a step, and the largest opening in the feed station family. That is a lid you can clean through and sample through properly, which is one of the real arguments for the 440 over the small stations.
