The Snyder Industries 4600 Gallon Heavy Duty Vertical Storage Tank is a crosslinked linear polyethylene (XLPE) vertical storage tank built for demanding water and high-density liquid duty. Molded in natural white so you can read the liquid level through the wall, it stands 116 inches tall on a 120 x 120 inch square footprint and carries a 4,600 gallon working capacity. If you are sizing a vertical tank for bulk water storage, this is a large-format XLPE tank engineered for a long service life above ground.

Will it work for your site?

The 1.9 specific gravity rating is the number that matters most here, and 1.9 is the maximum rating in the polyethylene range — the "Heavy Duty" in the name is that rating, so this already is the strongest version of this tank. Full of water, the tank and its contents weigh roughly 38,364 pounds, and the wall is rated to carry contents up to 72,892 pounds. That headroom means the tank is built for liquids substantially heavier than water, so water service leaves a comfortable margin. Fittings shown on the technical drawing include a flange, a single 18-inch polyethylene fitting that is both threaded and vented (plan your inlet and venting through it rather than adding a separate vent), and a manway with 15-inch access for interior inspection and cleaning. Confirm every fitting location, elevation, and sealing detail against the technical drawing on this page before you plumb inlet, outlet, and overflow lines. To match capacity to your demand and drawdown, run the numbers through our Tank Sizing Calculator and review the Tank Sizing Guide.

Foundation, placement, and containment

At nearly 116 inches tall and over 38,000 pounds full of water, this tank demands a properly engineered base. A flat, continuous, load-rated pad is required — the 120 x 120 inch footprint must be fully supported, with no voids or point loads under the floor. Our guide on concrete pad sizing for above-ground polyethylene tanks walks through the ACI 360R-10 framework so your foundation carries the full rated load. This is a single-wall tank; if your site requires secondary containment, see our Snyder Captor double-wall freeboard sizing guide. For rural or remote fire-water reservoir duty, our write-up on fire-water reservoir tank design covers NFPA 22 sizing discipline and cold-climate freeze protection.

The mistake to avoid

Do not assume XLPE and HDPE are interchangeable. This is a crosslinked polyethylene tank, and crosslinking changes how the wall behaves under load and chemical exposure — it is not the same material as standard linear HDPE, and the two are not swapped freely. If you are weighing the difference for your application, read Snyder XLPE vs HDPE: when crosslinking matters. The second mistake is treating the 1.9 SG rating as a substitute for verifying your specific liquid — for anything beyond water, confirm your contents against Snyder's material data before filling.
