Snyder part number 5480000N48 is a 4,900 gallon heavy duty vertical storage tank moulded in black crosslinked polyethylene (XLPE), 90 inches in diameter and 202 inches tall, 2,000 lb empty. It is the heaviest wall Snyder puts on this mould, rated for liquids up to 1.9 specific gravity, which is what you buy for dense acids, caustics and concentrated solutions that an ordinary tank is not built to carry. 4,900 gallons of water alone weighs 4,900 x 8.34 = 40,866 lb, and a liquid at the full rating weighs 1.9 times that. The top carries an 18 inch threaded vented manway. Snyder puts the service limit at 140 F (60 C), and backs it with a 3 year warranty. Black keeps light off the contents.

Seven and a half feet of floor, nearly seventeen feet of tank
The 90 inch circle is the whole reason for this shape: it fits an aisle, a containment bay or a corner that a wider tank never will. The price is height. At 202 inches the manway is close to seventeen feet up, so the install includes a caged ladder to a fixed platform with a rail, a permanent fill connection at the top, and a rule that nobody goes up there alone. The centre of gravity is high and the shell is heavy, so strap it to structure or to anchors cast into the slab before the crane leaves, in the upper part of the shell. The pad carries 40,866 lb of water, or well over that with a dense liquid, on a seven and a half foot circle; pour it to our concrete pad sizing guide, level and in full contact. Openings and fittings
- Manway. An 18 inch threaded vented manway at the top of the shell. Run a dip tube to the floor so the fill stream does not free-fall seventeen feet and foam the headspace, and keep the lid threaded shut between deliveries.
- Outlet. Tell us the liquid, the flow and the pump at order and we confirm the outlet this tank is supplied with before anything is drilled. Mount the transfer pump below the outlet where the head keeps it primed, fit a low level float, and carry the first valve on its own support with a flexible connector to the shell.
- Vent. Sized to the delivery pump and piped outdoors on anything that fumes.

The tank ships LTL at freight class 250 from Snyder's plant in Lincoln, NE, 90 x 90 x 202 inches and 2,000 lb on the truck. It arrives lying down and has to be stood up, so plan a crane or a loader with straps under the body, never a sling through the manway, and have the tie-downs ready before the crane is released. Check the part number against 5480000N48 on the bill of lading. Fill it with water first, hold it, and watch the base and every fitting before the working liquid goes in.
