Chemical rooms with height and no floor

A 48 inch footprint at 550 gallons is the tank for a plant that has ceiling and no floor: a chemical room already crowded with vessels, a corner beside a pump skid, the alley between two existing tanks, a bulk feed for a metering pump where the aisle cannot narrow. The height pays a second dividend, which is liquid standing above the pump: a tall column keeps a suction line flooded deep into the load. Height costs something on the ground. The tank puts 4,587 lb of water, or up to 8,715 lb at the rating, onto a 48 inch circle, a heavier bearing pressure per square foot than a wide shell at the same volume, so the slab is engineered level and in full contact per our concrete pad sizing guide. Seventy-five inches of empty tank at 110 lb wants restraint before the first fill: band it to structure in its upper third and look at the bands again after the first month. Openings and what to confirm before you buy

1. Manway. One 18 inch threaded vented manway at 75 inches, above comfortable reach. A platform or a tied-off ladder, and a permanent fill line landed at the lid, beat a driver lifting a hose over the rim. On a tall, narrow shell the level climbs fast for every gallon in, so size the vent path to the pump; an undersized path shows up as a lid that weeps at the end of a fast fill.
2. Outlet. No bottom fitting is listed on this tank. Name the liquid and the draw-off at order and we will confirm what Snyder fits to this moulding before anything is cut.
3. Fill line. A dip tube to the floor, because 75 inches of free fall is the worst splash in this family and it wets the manway threads on the way down.
4. Headspace. The taller the column, the more a warming liquid rises for the same expansion. Fill to the freeboard the sizing guide sets, never to the rim.

The tank ships LTL at freight class 300 from Snyder's plant at Chowchilla, CA, 48 by 48 by 75 inches on a pallet at 110 lb. The freight cost estimator gives the lane cost to your ZIP. At the tailgate, check the part number against 1800400N48 on the bill of lading, walk the wall and look at the manway threads for transit damage before signing, and fill it with water the first time before it carries anything else. Keep the lid closed between fills so vapor stays in and rain stays out, name the one liquid on the shell where a driver can read it, and put freeze protection on the piping and the first valve rather than the body.
