Snyder part number 8220000N49 is the Snyder Industries 6200 Gallon ASTM Black Vertical Storage Tank: a standard wall black polyethylene tank, 120 inches in diameter, 140 inches tall and 1,350 lb empty, with an 18 inch threaded vented manway on top. It is rated for liquids up to 1.5 specific gravity. Full of water it carries 51,708 lb (6,200 x 8.34), and at the 1.5 rating the tank is built for contents up to 77,562 lb. The service limit is 120 F (48 C). Snyder backs it with a 3 year warranty. It is moulded at Marked Tree, Arkansas.

A short, steady water tank
At 140 inches this is one of the easier big tanks to live with. It stands below most barn and shop eaves, the lid is a short ladder climb, and the wide base relative to its height keeps it steady. Typical jobs are a reserve for a poultry or livestock barn so the birds or cattle are not one pump failure from trouble, a rainwater tank fed from a shop roof, a wash water tank at an equipment yard, or a fire reserve at a property far from a hydrant. Black is the right colour for stored water because no light reaches it and algae has nothing to grow on. The base is a 120 inch circle carrying 51,708 lb of water, so it wants a level pad in full contact with the tank floor; size it with our concrete pad sizing guide. What to check before you buy
- The volume. Check 6,200 gallons against your use and refill time with the tank sizing calculator and the tank sizing guide, and leave headroom as our freeboard sizing article explains.
- The outlet. The manway is the only opening listed. Tell us the pipe size and what the tank feeds and we will confirm the outlet fitting before anything is drilled. Use a flexible connector so the fitting does not carry the pipe.
- The level. Black hides the water line; fit a float gauge or a level switch on the pump.
