Buying the wall the liquid actually needs

The N33 in the same shell is rated 1.35 and weighs 1,174. The C34 and C37-BLACK match this tank's 1,350 pounds, each rated as its own sheet says. There is a heavier family in this shell again. So the decision runs one way only: find the delivered specific gravity of the liquid on its certificate of analysis, then buy the first grade above it. Under 1.35 and the lightest wall is honest. Between 1.35 and 1.5 and this is the tank. Above that and you are in the heavy family and should be. Fill and vent through one 18 inch opening

• Vent and fill: everything comes in and all the air goes out through a single 18 inch threaded, vented manway on the crown. Size the vent to the delivery pump, not to whatever fitting is in the drawer, prove the path is clear before the hose is coupled, and run it outdoors on a liquid that fumes. The fill goes down a dip tube to the floor so the incoming stream does not splash and aerate the liquid.

One opening does three jobs here, so treat it as three. It is the vent, which means it is never painted over, gasketed shut or blanked off by a well-meaning contractor.
