The Norwesco 1010 Gallon Horizontal Leg Tank with Sump Bottom (SKU N-40393) is a Norwesco horizontal leg tank built for mobile haul work and stationary draining service. At 58 inches tall, 47 inches wide, and 140 inches long, it sits on a 47.0 x 140.0 inch footprint, and the integrated sump bottom (the technical drawing on this page notes the sump area as revised) drains the contents toward a low point so you can empty it more completely between loads. Molded in white polyethylene with a 1.5 specific gravity rating, this horizontal tank is a workhorse for fertilizer, water, and compatible liquids carried on a non-roadable trailer or set on a stand.

Resin: polyethylene (specific grade unconfirmed in our data — verify before any chemical service).

Will it work for your load?

This is a 1010-gallon horizontal drainable leg tank. Filled with water, the contents weigh roughly 8,423 lb, and the tank is rated to a 12,635 lb contents ceiling. Read those two numbers together: 12,635 lb is simply full water (8,423 lb) multiplied by the 1.5 SG rating — it is the same wall limit, not extra headroom above a 1.5 SG fluid. So you size by weight, not by gallons, and you do not run anything heavier than 1.5 SG in this unit. Always confirm your trailer or stand axle rating and tongue weight against a fully loaded tank. Use the Tank Sizing Calculator and the Tank Sizing Guide to match capacity and weight to your rig before you buy, and see the technical drawing on this page for fitting and sump-area detail.

Chemical compatibility

This tank is molded in polyethylene at a 1.5 specific gravity rating, and because the exact resin code is not confirmed in our data, confirm the construction with us before putting any chemical into service. At its 1.5 SG rating it handles these solutions — match the fitting and gasket material to the chemical exactly: Acetic Acid at 60% (PP/PVC fittings, EPDM gaskets), Aluminum Sulfate at 50% (PVC, EPDM), Calcium Chloride at 40% (PVC, EPDM), DEF at 32.5% (316SS, EPDM), Ferrous Sulfate at 20% (PVC, EPDM), Magnesium Chloride at 30% (PVC, EPDM), Sodium Carbonate at 30% (PVC, EPDM), and Urea Solution at 50% (PP/PVC, EPDM). Ozonated Water up to 10 PPM (PVC, EPDM) is also compatible — we do not yet have a dedicated compatibility page for it, so call 866-418-1777 to confirm before service. Verify every selection at your specific concentration and temperature against the OEM chemical-resistance chart; start at our chemical compatibility resource.

The mistake to avoid: specific gravity and gasket choice

The costly error on this tank is running a liquid heavier than its 1.5 SG rating allows. Ethylene Glycol, Ferric Chloride, Ferric Sulfate, Hydrochloric Acid, Hydrofluoric Acid, Hydrofluosilicic Acid, Hydrogen Peroxide, Peracetic Acid, Phosphoric Acid, Polyaluminum Chloride, Potassium Carbonate, Potassium Hydroxide, Propylene Glycol, Sodium Bisulfate, Sodium Bisulfite, Sodium Hypochlorite, Sodium Thiosulfate, Sulfuric Acid, and Zinc Orthophosphate all require a higher 1.9 specific gravity tank, not this 1.5 SG unit. Gasket choice matters too: Hydrochloric Acid, Hydrofluoric Acid, Hydrofluosilicic Acid, Hydrogen Peroxide, Phosphoric Acid, Sodium Hypochlorite, and Sulfuric Acid call for Viton rather than EPDM, and Peracetic Acid needs Aflas with 316SS. If your service liquid is on this list, call 866-418-1777 for the 1.9 SG equivalent rather than over-stressing the wall on this tank.

Freight

This Norwesco horizontal tank ships LTL freight, quoted live to your ZIP code. A 140-inch, 1010-gallon leg tank is an oversize LTL load, and the origin plant is the single biggest factor in your rate — it leaves from the nearest of four Norwesco plants: Hanford, CA; Lancaster, OH; Shawnee, OK; and St. Bonifacius, MN. Enter your ZIP in our Freight Cost Estimator and the nearest origin auto-selects (a buyer in TX or OK ships from Shawnee, not California), or call 866-418-1777 to lock in freight and confirm fittings before you order. For leg-tank and applicator background, see our guide on Norwesco applicator and leg tanks for fertilizer, the DOT classification for farm fleet use, and fertilizer-blend tank stratification.
