The Norwesco 1025 Gallon Black Heavy Duty Horizontal Leg Tank is a haul-rated polyethylene leg tank built for moving liquid loads on a sprayer skid, nurse trailer, or service bed. It carries a 1025-gallon capacity in a 139-inch long by 49-inch wide by 54-inch high horizontal body, with integrated saddle legs that let it sit flat and bolt down to a trailer or truck frame. The black resin shields the contents from UV and daylight, which is why operators reach for this horizontal leg tank when they need to haul rather than just store. If you are sizing a unit for a fertilizer applicator, a non-roadable trailer, or a farm fleet hauler, this is a black Norwesco horizontal tank built to take the road.

Will it handle your load?

This is a heavy-duty tank with a 1.9 specific gravity rating, meaning the wall is engineered for dense liquids well past the weight of water. Full of water, the tank and contents weigh roughly 8,548 lbs; at the full 1.9 SG rating the maximum contents weight climbs to about 16,242 lbs. Those numbers drive two decisions: your trailer axles and frame have to carry the loaded weight, and the 49 x 139-inch footprint has to land on the legs and crossmembers, not overhang them. Run your dimensions through the Tank Sizing Calculator and the Tank Sizing Guide before you commit to a chassis so the loaded tank stays inside your axle rating. One honest note: we do not have a factory fitting schedule on file for this SKU, so tell us the outlet, fill, and vent size and placement you need at order and we will confirm what is available before it ships.

Chemical compatibility

This tank carries a 1.9 specific gravity rating, the heaviest-rated build Norwesco offers for this body, so it handles dense solutions many lighter-wall tanks cannot. There is no higher-SG step-up above 1.9 here; for any product above 1.9 SG you have reached the polyethylene ceiling, so call us at 866-418-1777 before you order. The polyethylene resin grade is verified per order before chemical service, and because linear (HDLPE) and crosslinked (XLPE) polyethylene resist different chemistries, confirm the build with us for your specific chemical. Match your fittings and gaskets to the chemical, and verify every selection against the OEM chemical-resistance chart, which is concentration- and temperature-specific. Watch the metal and elastomer call-outs below: a few chemistries need 316SS or CPVC fittings rather than PVC, and Peracetic Acid uniquely needs Aflas gaskets. Compatible chemicals at the noted concentrations:

For the complete picture across every chemistry, see our chemical compatibility resource and always confirm against the OEM chart at your service concentration and temperature.

The mistake to avoid

The single biggest error on a haul tank is loading a dense chemical without accounting for the specific gravity. Water is 1.0 SG; many fertilizer blends, brines, and acids run 1.3 to 1.9. This tank is rated to 1.9, but your trailer and tie-downs must be rated for the loaded weight at YOUR product's density, not water. A liquid fertilizer at 1.5 SG in a full 1025-gallon tank is far heavier than the water-full figure, and stratification in a blend can shift that load during transit - see our guides on Norwesco applicator and leg tanks for fertilizer and fertilizer-blend tank stratification. If you are running this as a portable utility tank on a farm trailer, our breakdown of portable utility tanks and 49 CFR 173.5 covers the DOT classification questions before you hit the road. Reference the technical drawing on this page for the legs, mounting points, and fitting locations.

This tank ships LTL freight, quoted live to your ZIP from the nearest Norwesco plant - Fairfield, TX; Griffin, GA; Hanford, CA; Lancaster, OH; Owego, NY; Shawnee, OK; St. Bonifacius, MN; or Tooele, UT.
