Openings and fittings: what to check before you buy
- Inlet and outlet. Each is a 4 inch gasketed opening with a tee assembly fitted. Your 4 inch pipe pushes into the gasket; the tee keeps floating scum away from the pipe. Make the last joint outside the tank where you can reach it, and bed the pipe so it does not hang its weight on the gasket.
- Manway. A 20 inch opening with a 20 inch lid. Decide the finished grade before the tank goes in; if the lid will sit below grade, ask us about risers at order time so they ship with the tank.
- Which end is which. The inlet sits higher than the outlet on a septic tank so liquid flows through by gravity. Norwesco marks them; check before you set the tank, because turning a 157 inch tank in a trench is no fun.
