The Norwesco 1250 gallon two compartment low profile septic tank, SI version, part number 43571, is a green polyethylene septic tank 157 inches long, 60 inches wide and 51 inches tall, weighing 417 lb empty. It is the build Norwesco ships from its Owego, New York plant, and its state septic approval list names Maine, Maryland, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania. The internal baffle divides the tank into two chambers, the first settling solids and the second sending clearer liquid on to the drainfield. The low profile body goes into a shallow excavation. The plumbing ships loose: a 4 inch gasket with tee assembly for the inlet and a 4 inch outlet connection, fitted on site. Access is a 20 inch gasketed manway. Norwesco rates the tank to 130 F and backs it with a 5 year warranty. Full of water it holds 10425 lb.

Which 1250 two compartment tank to order
Norwesco builds this two compartment body under several part numbers, and what separates them is the plant and the state approvals each number carries. Order 43571 for Maine, Maryland, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York or Pennsylvania. For a state not on that list, tell us where the tank is going and we name the part number on that state's list; a tank bought on the wrong number can fail the inspection even though the body is identical. A state approval is not a permit: the county or state health department issues that against the system design, so confirm the model with them before you dig. Openings, plumbing and what to check before you buy
- Inlet. A 4 inch gasket with tee assembly, shipped loose. The gasket seals the house line in the tank wall and the tee drops the inflow below the scum layer. Fit it before the tank goes in the hole, turned to the house line.
- Outlet. A 4 inch connection at the drainfield end. Tell us whether your design calls for an outlet tee or an effluent filter at this opening and we confirm what ships with the tank.
- Manway. A 20 inch gasketed manway for pumping and inspection. If the burial puts the lid below grade, a riser brings it up; tell us the depth and we quote one with the tank.

Setting it
Follow Norwesco's installation instructions and the conditions on your permit. Dig to the drawing, bed the tank on a level, rock free base, fill it with water as you backfill so the walls are supported from both sides, and keep vehicles off the area for good. In wet ground an empty tank wants to float, so do not leave it empty in an open hole overnight. Have the inspector see the tank set and the plumbing connected before the backfill covers it.
