The Norwesco 135 Gallon Horizontal Elliptical Leg Tank is a white polyethylene leg tank built for hauling and field application work, where its self-supporting legs let it ride a skid, trailer, or truck bed without a separate cradle. Common loads include fertilizer solutions, calcium chloride brine, and DEF. The elliptical body stands 26 inches tall on a 36 x 56 inch footprint, holding a nominal 135 gallons. It carries a 1.5 specific gravity rating, so it is engineered to handle liquids up to 1.5 times the weight of water, including the heavier agricultural and water-treatment fluids covered below.

Will it work for your job

Plan your load around real liquid weight, not just gallons. Filled with water this tank weighs about 1,126 pounds, and at its full 1.5 SG rating it can carry up to roughly 1,689 pounds of contents. Confirm your trailer, skid, or truck bed is rated for that weight before you fill it. Lay out your mount around the 56-inch length and 36-inch width; the 26-inch height keeps the loaded center of gravity low for road transport. The tank threads for an 8-inch cap (see the technical drawing on this page for the fill opening and leg layout), which is your primary fill and inspection point. If you are still deciding between sizes, the Tank Sizing Calculator and Tank Sizing Guide help you match capacity to your spreader runs and refill cadence.

Chemical compatibility

This polyethylene tank is rated to 1.5 specific gravity. The base resin is high-density polyethylene; if you need confirmation of HDLPE versus crosslinked (XLPE) construction for a specific chemical, call us before ordering. At its 1.5 SG rating the tank is suited to these chemicals at the listed concentrations, with the fitting and gasket materials shown for each. Always verify against the manufacturer's chemical-resistance chart, which is concentration- and temperature-specific.

Note the fitting material varies by chemical: DEF requires 316SS fittings, while Acetic Acid and Urea Solution call for PP or PVC, not standard PVC alone. Match your fittings to the chemical, not the tank. The mistake to avoid is assuming the 1.5 SG rating covers every chemical. Several common ag and treatment fluids need a heavier 1.9 SG tank instead, including Ethylene Glycol, Ferric Chloride, Ferric Sulfate, Hydrochloric Acid, Hydrofluoric Acid, Hydrofluosilicic Acid, Hydrogen Peroxide, Peracetic Acid, Phosphoric Acid, Polyaluminum Chloride, Potassium Carbonate, Potassium Hydroxide, Propylene Glycol, Sodium Bisulfate, Sodium Bisulfite, Sodium Hypochlorite, Sodium Thiosulfate, Sulfuric Acid, and Zinc Orthophosphate. If your service liquid is on that list, step up to a heavier 1.9 SG (XLPE) leg tank instead of running it in this one; we carry the heavier-rated equivalents, so call 866-418-1777 and we will match the size for you. See the full chemical compatibility guide and verify gasket selection, since acids such as Hydrochloric, Phosphoric, and Sulfuric call for Viton rather than EPDM.
