The Norwesco 125 Gallon Horizontal Leg Tank in White is a polyethylene haul-and-transport tank carrying a 1.5 specific gravity rating, the higher-density rating that lets it handle ag chemicals and blends heavier than water rather than potable water alone. The molded leg-style base keeps the tank stable and low on a trailer or skid for field application, nurse-tank duty, and fertilizer hauling. It is rated for a maximum contents weight of 1,564 lb. For reference, 125 gallons of plain water weighs about 1,042 lb. The fill opening uses a 60002 lid; see the technical drawing on this page for the fitting layout and dimensions.

Will it work for your job?

Match the contents weight to the 1.5 SG ceiling before you buy. That 1,564 lb rating works out to about 12.5 lb per gallon across the full 125 gallons, which is water (8.34 lb/gal) times 1.5. Below that density you have headroom; above it you are over-rating the tank. A horizontal leg tank distributes load across its legs and sits low for a stable center of gravity on the move, which is why it suits applicator and nurse-tank work. Run your numbers through the Tank Sizing Calculator or the Tank Sizing Guide to confirm the 125-gallon capacity and weight fit your trailer rating. For DOT classification and the agricultural-exemption questions that come up with on-road farm hauling, read our guides on Norwesco applicator and leg tanks for fertilizer and portable utility tanks under 49 CFR 1735.

Chemical compatibility

This tank is molded in polyethylene with a 1.5 specific gravity rating. The resin grade is recorded as HDLPE pending confirmation, and resin grade is the gating variable for every chemical claim below, so confirm HDLPE versus XLPE with us before putting any chemical into service. The chemicals below are compatible with a 1.5 SG polyethylene tank at the concentrations shown; always verify against the OEM chemical-resistance chart at your specific concentration and temperature, since compatibility shifts with both:

One fitting note: DEF is the only chemical in this set that requires 316 stainless fittings rather than PVC or PP, so do not reuse PVC hardware from another job on a DEF fill. For fertilizer blends specifically, mind stratification and density-driven salting-out; our guide on fertilizer-blend tank stratification covers the mixing protocol and field checks that catch a stratified tank before the spreader runs off-spec. See the full chemical compatibility reference for the complete picture.

The mistake to avoid: under-rating the tank for your chemical

The most common error is loading a denser chemical than this 1.5 SG tank is built for. Several common ag and water-treatment chemicals require a heavier-duty 1.9 specific gravity tank, not this one — including Ethylene Glycol, Ferric Chloride, Ferric Sulfate, Hydrochloric Acid, Hydrofluoric Acid, Hydrofluosilicic Acid, Hydrogen Peroxide, Peracetic Acid, Phosphoric Acid, Polyaluminum Chloride, Potassium Carbonate, Potassium Hydroxide, Propylene Glycol, Sodium Bisulfate, Sodium Bisulfite, Sodium Hypochlorite, Sodium Thiosulfate, Sulfuric Acid, and Zinc Orthophosphate. Several of these — sodium hypochlorite, peracetic acid, and the strong acids — also need Viton or Aflas gaskets rather than EPDM. If your chemical is on this list, step up to a 1.9 SG tank instead of this one; call us at 866-418-1777 and we will match you to the right horizontal leg tank for that service.
