The Norwesco 2035 Gallon Horizontal Elliptical Leg Tank is a black, HDPE haul tank built to carry liquid down the road or sit cradled in a fitted transport frame. It measures 142 inches long by 84 inches wide by 56 inches high, and the elliptical leg profile drops the center of gravity for safer towing and field transfer. Norwesco rates this tank to a 1.9 specific gravity, which is the spec that lets it carry the dense ag chemistries and fertilizers most leg tanks in this class cannot. That 1.9 rating is also the top of Norwesco's density scale for this leg-tank line, so you are not under-specced and there is no heavier-rated version to wait for. This is a horizontal leg tank for operators who need real capacity on a trailer, not a stationary storage vessel.

Will it work for your load?

Run the weight math before you commit to a frame and trailer. Filled with plain water this tank carries 16,972 lb; at its full 1.9 SG rating the maximum rated contents weight is 32,247 lb. That spread matters: water-weight sizing will badly under-build your trailer and tie-downs if you actually plan to haul dense fertilizer or chemical blends. The 84 x 142 inch footprint is what your transport cradle and deck have to fully support along the belly of the elliptical shell. Use the Tank Sizing Calculator and the Tank Sizing Guide to confirm loaded weight against your equipment. Factory fitting size and outlet placement are not published in this listing data, so see the technical drawing on this page or call us before you plumb it. If you are running this behind a farm rig, our guide on Norwesco applicator and leg tanks for fertilizer and our guide on the agricultural exemption and DOT classification walk through DOT classification and non-roadable trailer scope.

Chemical compatibility

This is an HDPE tank rated to 1.9 specific gravity. The resin is recorded as HDLPE in our data but is not yet confirmed against the OEM resin record, so confirm HDLPE versus XLPE with us at 866-418-1777 before placing any aggressive chemical into service. Compatibility is always concentration- and temperature-specific, so verify your exact blend against the OEM chemical-resistance chart and our chemical compatibility resource. Common haul loads this tank supports include DEF (32.5%) on 316SS fittings with EPDM gaskets and urea solution (50%) on PP/PVC with EPDM — note DEF needs 316SS, not PVC, so match the fitting to the chemical, not just the tank. With correct fitting and gasket selection this tank also handles a wide range of ag and water-treatment chemistries, including acetic acid (60%) with PP/PVC fittings and EPDM gaskets, aluminum sulfate (50%), calcium chloride (40%), ethylene glycol (100%), ferric chloride (50%), ferric sulfate (60%), ferrous sulfate (20%), magnesium chloride (30%), potassium carbonate (50%), saturated potassium hydroxide, propylene glycol, sodium carbonate (30%), sodium bisulfate, sodium bisulfite, sodium thiosulfate (40%), zinc orthophosphate, and polyaluminum chloride. More aggressive oxidizers and acids require Viton or Aflas gaskets and specific fitting materials: hydrochloric acid (37%) on PVC with Viton, hydrofluoric acid (48%) on PP/PVC with Viton, hydrofluosilicic acid (26%) on PP/PVC with Viton, and phosphoric acid (85%) on PVC with Viton; hydrogen peroxide (50%) on PVC with Viton and sodium hypochlorite (under 16.5%) on PVC with Viton; sulfuric acid (98%) on CPVC with Viton; peracetic acid (30%) on 316SS with Aflas; and ozonated water up to 10 PPM on PVC with EPDM (no dedicated compatibility page yet — confirm this one with us).

The mistake that costs operators

The single biggest error on a 1.9 SG leg tank is plumbing it with the wrong fitting and gasket material for the chemical, then assuming the tank shell rating covers the whole system. The shell may be rated for sulfuric acid, but a PVC fitting where you needed CPVC, or an EPDM gasket where Viton was specified, fails first and dumps the load. Match every wetted component to the chart above for your exact concentration. The second mistake is sizing the trailer to water weight when the real cargo is dense fertilizer; build to the 32,247 lb rated number, not the 16,972 lb water figure.

This tank ships LTL freight, quoted live to your ZIP from whichever of seven Norwesco plants is nearest you — Fairfield, TX; Griffin, GA; Hanford, CA; Lancaster, OH; Shawnee, OK; St. Bonifacius, MN; and Tooele, UT — which materially lowers the freight on a 56 x 84 x 142 in tank versus a single far-away origin. List price excludes LTL freight; get the ZIP-specific number with the Freight Cost Estimator before you buy, or call us at 866-418-1777 to lock in your fitting package and freight together.
