Norwesco 2035 Gallon HDPE Horizontal Elliptical Leg Tank in Blue (N-40623)

N-40623 is a 2035 gallon horizontal elliptical leg tank whose material field reads high density linear polyethylene and whose colour field reads blue. The body is 142 inches long by 84 inches wide by 56 inches tall, and the crate is given at the same figures. Empty weight and shipping weight both read 685 lb. The outlet is a 2 inch polypropylene female NPT bulkhead fitting and access is a 16 inch threaded vented manway. Specific gravity is 1.9, given on the record as a maximum of 15.87 pounds per gallon; 2035 gallons of water at 8.34 pounds per gallon is 16972 lb, against a maximum contents figure of 32247 lb. The service ceiling is 120 F / 48 C, the warranty field reads 5 years, and freight class and ship mode both read OVS.

Eighty four inches across the legs, and the run the tank has to travel

Width is the constraint on this one. At 84 inches across, this body is wider than a standard personnel door, wider than many gate openings and wide enough that the route from the truck to the final position wants walking before delivery day rather than on it. The length is 142 inches and the height is only 56 inches, so the tank is long and low and broad, which is easy to get under things and difficult to get between them. Measure the narrowest point on the route, not the widest, and measure it at the height the tank will actually be carried at, because a machine under the legs adds to that 56 inches.

Underneath, the legs the name gives run the length of the body, so the support has to be continuous and flat across the whole 142 inches with all the legs in contact before any liquid goes in. The install specific worth knowing: at 84 inches wide this tank is stable on its own legs but presents a large side area, so decide how it is being secured before it is placed, not after, and understand that the sheet publishes no securing arrangement of any kind for you to work from. Our tank sizing calculator and tank sizing guide handle the volume half of the decision.

Four rows share the 142 by 84 by 56 inch shell at 2035 gallons, and the figure that sorts them is empty weight: this blue record reads 685 lb, N-40775 also reads 685 lb, N-40621 reads 605 lb and N-40618 reads 595 lb. Same envelope, same gallons, a spread of weights. That is the only distinction the sheet draws between them other than the colour word in each store name, and it is the only one we will draw, because attributing a performance difference to a colour would be us making something up. What this page can tell you about this particular record is what its own sheet says: blue, high density linear polyethylene in the material field, 685 lb, a 1.9 specific gravity figure with a maximum contents weight of 32247 lb, and a 5 year warranty term. Either side of the family, N-40387 is the 1635 gallon row at 465 lb, narrower at 71 inches and two inches taller, and N-40283 steps up to 2635 gallons in a body 90 inches wide and 72 inches tall, which is a genuinely bigger installation rather than a variant of this one.

The 2 inch bulkhead outlet and the 16 inch vented manway

  • The outlet is a 2 inch polypropylene female NPT bulkhead fitting, fully described on the record: size, material, thread form and fitting type.
  • Size the discharge run at 2 inches from the bulkhead outward. On a long, low body, a restriction downstream costs you more than it would on a tall one, because there is less head pushing the last of the contents through it.
  • Female NPT means you supply the male half. Make the joint up with the correct sealant for the thread form and do not rely on a wrench to fix a thread that did not start cleanly.
  • The inlet field is blank, so nothing is described as installed at the fill end.
  • Access is a 16 inch threaded vented manway and the lid size field agrees at 16 inches. On a 56 inch tall body that opening is at a reachable height, which is one of the quiet advantages of this shape.
  • Specific gravity is 1.9, given as a maximum of 15.87 pounds per gallon, with a maximum contents figure of 32247 lb against 16972 lb of water.
  • The service ceiling is 120 F / 48 C, and the warranty field reads 5 years.

Support the pipework off its own hangers rather than off the shell. A long elliptical body flexes slightly through a fill cycle, and a 2 inch line clamped hard to a wall at one end and threaded into the bulkhead at the other will transfer that movement straight into the fitting.

Blue high density linear polyethylene at 1.9

The two fields that make this record the one to buy, rather than one of its same-shaped neighbours, are the material text and the specific gravity figure. The material field reads high density linear polyethylene and the specific gravity figure is 1.9, expanded on the sheet as a maximum of 15.87 pounds per gallon, which produces a maximum contents weight of 32247 lb against 16972 lb of water. The warranty field reads 5 years. The colour field reads blue, and that is the whole of the colour story this sheet supports; we describe no property, no behaviour and no benefit for it, because the record attributes none and a colour claim we cannot source is a colour claim we will not make.

The honest limitation is that the securing and support arrangement is entirely absent from this record. There is no band, hoop, cradle or frame specification, no anchor pattern and no clearance figure, so how this 84 inch wide body is held in position is a question for your installer rather than a detail you will find here. Two pieces of background sit near this family in our library: the background article on Norwesco applicator and leg tanks describes how the maker frames this range, and the companion piece on loaf-style portable utility tanks covers the small portable end of it. If the density of what you store varies with temperature, our article on blend tank stratification and thermal layering explains why a still tank does not stay uniform. All three are reading, not claims about this part number.

Chemical service ratings

The resin is rated for the liquids below at the concentrations shown; the fitting and gasket called out are the ones to order with the tank. Verify the exact service on the linked page or in the chemical compatibility database before ordering.

Six plants, seven shipping states, 685 lb crated at 142 inches

This part number is made at six plants: St. Bonifacius, Minnesota; Lancaster, Ohio; Griffin, Georgia; Shawnee, Oklahoma; Tooele, Utah; and Hanford, California. The ships-from field names seven states, so the two lists are not the same list and we confirm which origin applies to your order before it ships rather than assuming the nearest one. Freight class and ship mode both read OVS, empty weight and shipping weight agree at 685 lb, and the crate measures 142 by 84 by 56 inches, which is the tank and nothing else.

Receiving this one is a width problem before it is a weight problem. At 84 inches across, the tank overhangs a standard fork spread, so brief whoever is unloading before the truck backs in: the lift points are under the legs, across the full width, and a machine that takes it on two forks under the centre will flex the shell exactly where the legs meet it. Agree the lift with the driver, not during it. Run your ZIP through the freight cost estimator to get a real number; the listed price is before freight. Set it down on its legs on flat ground straight away, even if the final position is not ready, because this shape does not sit happily on anything else. Keep one spare gasket for the outlet fitting on the shelf; it is the part that fails on a holiday.
