The Norwesco 2035 Gallon Horizontal Elliptical Leg Tank in black is a polyethylene leg tank built for transport and stationary fertilizer or chemical duty where a stable, low-slung profile matters. At 142 inches long, 84 inches wide, and 56 inches tall, the elliptical cross-section keeps the load low and resists rollover on a sprayer trailer or skid. The black resin blocks UV and sunlight, holding back algae growth in fertilizer blends and field water. It is a common pick among applicators running a horizontal leg tank when they need real volume without a tall, top-heavy footprint, and it handles diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) at 32.5% as readily as field water.

Will it work for your application

This tank carries a 1.5 specific gravity rating, which sets the hard limit on what you can safely store. With water at SG 1.0, a full 2035 gallons weighs about 16,972 pounds; at the maximum rated 1.5 SG contents, the load reaches roughly 25,458 pounds. Size your trailer, frame, and saddle supports to that 25,458-pound figure, not the water weight, because under-rating the structure is the most common and most expensive mistake on a leg tank this size. The 84 x 142 inch footprint and 56-inch height let you plan deck space and overhead clearance before the tank arrives. For load planning across blends and concentrations, the Tank Sizing Calculator and Tank Sizing Guide walk you through matching capacity to weight.

Chemical compatibility

This tank carries a 1.5 specific gravity rating. Confirm the resin grade with us, HDLPE versus XLPE, before putting any chemical into service. At the 1.5 SG rating, the chemicals below are compatible per the manufacturer chemical-resistance chart, which is always concentration- and temperature-specific, so verify your exact concentration and temperature before committing. Note that the fittings are not one-size: DEF runs on 316 stainless steel, acetic acid and urea solution use PP/PVC, and the rest take PVC, all on EPDM gaskets. Match the fitting per chemical from the chart.

  • Acetic Acid at 60%, with PP/PVC fittings and EPDM gaskets
  • Aluminum Sulfate at 50%, with PVC fittings and EPDM gaskets
  • Calcium Chloride at 40%, with PVC fittings and EPDM gaskets
  • DEF at 32.5%, with 316SS fittings and EPDM gaskets
  • Ferrous Sulfate at 20%, with PVC fittings and EPDM gaskets
  • Magnesium Chloride at 30%, with PVC fittings and EPDM gaskets
  • Sodium Carbonate at 30%, with PVC fittings and EPDM gaskets
  • Urea Solution at 50%, with PP/PVC fittings and EPDM gaskets
  • Ozonated Water up to 10 PPM, with PVC fittings and EPDM gaskets (verify your exact concentration against the chart)

Several chemicals are too dense for a 1.5 SG tank and require a higher 1.9 specific gravity rated tank instead. The step-up tank also changes the hardware: many of these need Viton or Aflas gaskets rather than EPDM, and some need CPVC or 316SS fittings, so do not reuse your EPDM/PVC hardware. This list includes Sulfuric Acid (CPVC fittings, Viton gaskets), Sodium Hypochlorite (PVC, Viton), Hydrochloric Acid (PVC, Viton), Phosphoric Acid (PVC, Viton), Ethylene Glycol, Ferric Chloride, Ferric Sulfate, Hydrofluoric Acid, Hydrofluosilicic Acid, Hydrogen Peroxide, Peracetic Acid (Aflas gaskets), Polyaluminum Chloride, Potassium Carbonate, Potassium Hydroxide, Propylene Glycol, Sodium Bisulfate, Sodium Bisulfite, Sodium Thiosulfate, and Zinc Orthophosphate. Start with the full chemical compatibility reference, and review each chemical's page for the concentration- and temperature-specific detail.

Fertilizer service and DOT scope

For applicators running fertilizer blends, stratification and salting-out can quietly take a tank off spec before the spreader runs. Our guide on fertilizer-blend tank stratification covers the mixing protocol and field verification methods. If you are mounting this on a trailer, the Norwesco applicator and leg tank DOT scope and 49 CFR 173.5 agricultural exemption guides explain how non-roadable trailer and farm-fleet classifications apply. Reference the technical drawing on this page for fitting locations and exact dimensions.

This tank ships LTL freight, quoted live to your ZIP. It builds at multiple Norwesco plants, and we ship from the one nearest you among Fairfield, TX; Griffin, GA; Hanford, CA; Lancaster, OH; Shawnee, OK; St. Bonifacius, MN; and Tooele, UT, which keeps the haul short on a tank this size. Get a freight estimate to your ZIP with the Freight Cost Estimator, or call us at 866-418-1777 to confirm the resin grade, plan your fittings, and lock in freight to your address.
