The Norwesco 3725 Gallon Black Heavy Duty Horizontal Leg Tank (SKU 44049B) is a polyethylene horizontal leg tank built for hauling and applying liquids that need a high-strength wall. It measures 145 inches long by 92 inches wide by 97 inches high, with a 92.0 x 145.0-inch footprint, and carries a 1.9 specific gravity rating - the heavy-duty end of the Norwesco horizontal range and the reason this black tank handles dense fertilizer blends and concentrated solutions that lighter horizontal tanks cannot. The drawing for this tank was redrawn with revised end sumps; because the sump outlet size and location live on the drawing rather than in the spec sheet, confirm them against the technical drawing on this page before you select fittings or plumb the outlet.

Will it handle your load?

Sizing is everything on a haul or applicator tank, because what you put in it travels down the road. Filled with water, the 3725-gallon body weighs roughly 31,066 lbs. The 1.9 SG rating means the tank wall is engineered to carry up to about 59,026 lbs of contents - that is the maximum rated contents weight, and it is the number that matters when you are running denser-than-water fertilizer or a heavy solution. Note that 1.9 is the top of the Norwesco horizontal leg tank range, so there is no denser-rated horizontal leg tank above this unit; for contents heavier than about 1.9 specific gravity you would need to drop down in capacity or move to a different tank type. Run the numbers against your trailer, axle ratings, and road limits before you fill: use the Tank Sizing Calculator and the Tank Sizing Guide to match capacity to your rig. If you are building an applicator or non-roadable trailer setup, our guide on Norwesco applicator and leg tanks for fertilizer walks through the DOT and NRT scope questions, and the 49 CFR 173.5 agricultural exemption breakdown covers farm-fleet classification.

Chemical compatibility

This tank is a polyethylene body with a 1.9 specific gravity rating. The resin grade is recorded as HDLPE, but the high-density-vs-crosslinked distinction is not fully confirmed for this SKU - confirm HDLPE vs XLPE before committing to chemical service, since crosslinked walls handle aggressive oxidizers and hydrocarbons differently. Compatibility is concentration- and temperature-specific; always check the OEM chemical-resistance chart for your exact concentration and operating temperature, and select fittings and gaskets to match the chemical, not the tank. Within the 1.9 SG rating, this tank is rated for, among others:

The single most common mistake on a tank this dense is mismatching the gasket to the chemical. Of the 28 chemicals listed above, eight do not take EPDM: Hydrochloric Acid, Hydrofluoric Acid, Hydrofluosilicic Acid, Hydrogen Peroxide, Phosphoric Acid, Sodium Hypochlorite, and Sulfuric Acid all require Viton, and Peracetic Acid requires Aflas. An EPDM gasket that is right for fertilizer salts will degrade fast against those oxidizers and acids. Confirm the sump outlet size against the technical drawing, then match the fitting material (PVC, PP, CPVC, or 316SS) and the gasket to your specific chemical, and start from our full chemical compatibility reference to verify your concentration and temperature before service.

Freight

This horizontal leg tank ships LTL freight, quoted live to your ZIP. It ships from the nearest of our Norwesco plants - Fairfield, TX or St. Bonifacius, MN - so a southern destination typically routes from Fairfield and a northern or upper-Midwest destination from St. Bonifacius. Because those two plants straddle the country, freight on a tank this size swings hard by ZIP; running your ZIP through the Freight Cost Estimator shows which plant serves you and what the lane costs before you commit. Or call us at 866-418-1777 and we will quote the lane and walk through fittings, gaskets, and sizing for your application.
