The Norwesco 3725 Gallon Black Horizontal Leg Tank (SKU 44047B) is built for over-the-road and yard haul duty where you need to move large volumes of liquid fertilizer, water, or compatible solutions across a farm or job site. This is a horizontal leg tank molded in black polyethylene, rated to specific gravity 1.5, with integral legs that let it sit flat and stable on a trailer or skid without a separate cradle. It holds 3725 gallons and measures 145 inches long by 92 inches wide by 97 inches high, giving you a 92.0 x 145.0 inch footprint to plan your transport frame around.

Will it work for your haul

The 1.5 specific gravity rating is the number that decides what you can legally and safely put in this tank. Full of plain water (8.34 lb/gal) the contents weigh roughly 31,066 pounds, and the structural ceiling is 46,600 pounds of contents at the full 1.5 SG rating. Here is the haul number that matters: 46,600 pounds spread across 3,725 gallons works out to about 12.5 pounds per gallon, which is right at a 1.5 SG liquid filled to the top. So if you are hauling a denser-than-water fertilizer or brine, you are close to the wall rating at full volume, and a liquid heavier than 1.5 SG would force you to fill below 3,725 gallons to stay under the limit. Size your trailer axles, hitch, and tow vehicle to the loaded weight, not the empty tank, and run your contents volume or target payload through our Tank Sizing Calculator and the Tank Sizing Guide before you commit a transport setup. For how Norwesco classifies leg and applicator tanks for fertilizer and DOT non-roadable trailer use, see our guide on Norwesco applicator and leg tanks for fertilizer and the companion piece on portable utility tanks and the 49 CFR 173.5 agricultural exemption.

Chemical compatibility

The resin for this SKU is recorded as HDLPE, but the record is not fully confirmed - verify HDLPE versus XLPE (crosslinked) with us before you put it into dedicated chemical service, since the two resins behave differently with aggressive solutions. At its 1.5 SG rating, the following are compatible per the OEM chemical-resistance chart, which is always concentration- and temperature-specific - verify your exact concentration and operating temperature against the chart before filling: Acetic Acid at 60% (PP/PVC fittings, EPDM gaskets); Aluminum Sulfate at 50% (PVC, EPDM); Calcium Chloride at 40% (PVC, EPDM); DEF at 32.5% (316SS fittings, EPDM); Ferrous Sulfate at 20% (PVC, EPDM); Magnesium Chloride at 30% (PVC, EPDM); Sodium Carbonate at 30% (PVC, EPDM); Urea Solution at 50% (PP/PVC, EPDM); and Ozonated Water up to 10 PPM (PVC fittings, EPDM gaskets). Ozonated Water does not have a dedicated chart page on our site, so confirm that service by phone before filling. Match the fitting and gasket material to the chemical, not just the tank - DEF needs 316 stainless fittings, while most of the rest run PVC or PP.

Chemicals that need a higher-SG (1.9) tank

Several common process chemicals exceed the 1.5 SG rating of this tank and require a 1.9 SG tank instead - do not run them in this one. Grouped by the gasket they call for: with Viton gaskets, Hydrochloric Acid, Hydrofluoric Acid, Hydrofluosilicic Acid, Hydrogen Peroxide, Phosphoric Acid, Sodium Hypochlorite, and Sulfuric Acid (sulfuric also requires CPVC fittings); with an Aflas gasket, Peracetic Acid (316SS fittings); and with EPDM gaskets, Ethylene Glycol, Ferric Chloride, Ferric Sulfate, Polyaluminum Chloride, Potassium Carbonate, Potassium Hydroxide, Propylene Glycol, Sodium Bisulfate, Sodium Bisulfite, Sodium Thiosulfate, and Zinc Orthophosphate. The single most expensive mistake on a tank this size is loading a chemical that outweighs the 1.5 SG wall or pairing it with the wrong gasket, so check the chemical compatibility chart first. If you need one of the chemicals above, call us at 866-418-1777 and we will match you to a 1.9 SG-rated tank instead.

Sizing, mixing, and fertilizer service

For fertilizer blending in a tank this large, stratification is a real field problem - dense components can settle and salt out, sending the spreader off-spec. Our guide on fertilizer-blend tank stratification and mixing protocol design covers the verification methods that catch a stratified tank before it costs you a pass. Because the factory fitting layout is not listed for this SKU, confirm fitting locations and tank geometry against the technical drawing on this page and with our team before you finalize plumbing or the transport frame.

This Norwesco horizontal leg tank ships LTL freight, quoted live to your ZIP from the nearest stocking plant among Fairfield, TX, Shawnee, OK, and St. Bonifacius, MN - your quoted cost depends on which of those three plants is closest to you. On a 31,000-plus pound loaded haul tank, get an accurate number with our Freight Cost Estimator or call our team at 866-418-1777 to confirm specific gravity rating, fitting configuration, and delivery before you order.
