The Norwesco 535 gallon horizontal elliptical leg tank in white, part number 42353, is a polyethylene transport tank with a flattened oval cross section: 80 inches long, 57 inches wide and only 39 inches tall on its moulded legs, weighing 149 lb empty. The low height is the reason to buy an elliptical tank over a round leg tank of the same volume: the centre of gravity sits lower on the deck, the tank clears more racks and canopies, and a sprayer or a pump can sit beside it without a step. It comes with a 2 inch polypropylene female NPT bulkhead fitting as the outlet and a 16 inch threaded vented manway on top. On a pickup or a trailer
Measure the bed first. The tank is 57 inches wide at the legs and 80 inches long, so it sits in a full size pickup bed with the tailgate closed on a long bed and open on a short one; on a trailer it runs along the deck. At 39 inches tall it rides below the cab roof on most trucks. Full, it carries about 4460 lb of water on top of the 149 lb tank, and more with fertilizer, so the vehicle's payload rating decides whether you fill it all the way. What goes in it
Water for stock and dust control, liquid fertilizer for the applicator, and the common farm chemicals that polyethylene handles. Openings and fittings
- Outlet. A 2 inch polypropylene female NPT bulkhead fitting, factory installed. Your valve, camlock or hose adapter threads straight in. Support the valve and the first length of hose so the fitting carries liquid, not hardware.
- Manway. A 16 inch threaded vented manway on top, wide enough to fill from a hose, drop a float in and get a brush inside.
