Manway, outlet, limits

• Access: 18 inch lid, 257 inches up; filled by truck through a dip tube, vented outside on anything that fumes, and size the vent for a tanker's unload rate.
• Outlet: the bulkhead fitting is chosen for the liquid at order time; an expansion joint and a flexible connector between the bulkhead and hard pipe, with the valve carried on the slab.

On a tank this tall nobody reads a level by eye; fit a sender read at ground level, and a float switch for low level protects a pump. Mount the pump below the outlet so it primes by gravity, keep the lid closed against vapor loss, and keep the tank out of direct sun where the liquid is light-sensitive. In a freezing climate insulate or drain the outlet valve and the first run of pipe; the body takes ice from the top down without harm.

Unloading a tanker safely

The driver's pump can deliver faster than the lid vent can breathe, so the vent is sized for the unload rate or the fill goes through a dedicated top bulkhead with its own vent line. The fill pipe runs to the floor so the liquid does not free-fall and foam; on a shell this tall that is a long drop. The first delivery into a new tank is watched from start to finish, with the slab edge and the outlet fitting checked as the level climbs, and from then on each load is logged by date and strength.
