Fifteen tons of chemical on a five foot circle
A 1.9 specific gravity wall is sized for a liquid nearly twice as dense as water, and 510 pounds of resin is what that takes on a shell this tall and narrow, 50 pounds more than the 1.5 wall in the same mold. Where the pipe goes
- Access: 18 inch threaded, vented manway, 147 inches up; vent outside on acid and caustic service, fill through a dip tube, and size the vent for the delivery pump.
- Outlet: tell us the chemical when ordering and the bulkhead fitting is matched to it; a flanged transition and a valve supported off the floor, in the material the chemical calls for.
- Service limit: 120 F.
Read the level from the ground through a sender chosen for the chemical, not by climbing; leave the manway closed between fills to hold the vapor, and put the tank in shade if the chemical is light-sensitive. Regulated chemical in a single wall tank means a berm sized to the tank around it. Label it so the fire inspector and the workplace inspector read the same thing. Where it freezes, insulate or drain the outlet valve and the first length of pipe.
Fill day
A delivery truck's pump can push air out faster than a stock vent can pass it, so the vent is sized for the unload rate or the fill goes through a dedicated top bulkhead with its own vent line. The fill pipe runs to the floor so caustic or coagulant does not free-fall and foam; on a shell this tall that is a long drop. A dense liquid heats when water is added to it, so a batch tank is filled with water before the chemical, never after. The first load into a new tank gets watched end to end, eyes on the slab edge and the outlet fitting while the level comes up, and each delivery after it is logged with its date and strength.
