Manway, outlet, limits

• Access: 18 inch threaded, vented manway, 88 inches up; vent outside on acid and caustic service, fill through a dip tube, and size the vent for the delivery pump.
• Outlet: the bulkhead fitting is chosen for the chemical at order time; a flanged transition and a valve supported off the pad, in the material the chemical calls for.
• Service limit: 120 F / 48 C.

Choose the level sender for the chemical and read it at ground level; a closed manway keeps the vapor in, and a light-sensitive chemical gets shade. Put a regulated chemical in a single wall tank and the berm around it has to hold all of it. Label it so the fire inspector and the workplace inspector read the same thing. Vent first, then fill

A delivery truck's pump can push air out faster than a stock vent can pass it, so the vent is sized for the unload rate or the fill goes through a dedicated top bulkhead with its own vent line. Run the fill pipe to the floor so caustic or coagulant does not free-fall and foam. Diluting a dense chemical makes heat, so a batch is built water first and chemical second, never the reverse. The first delivery into a new tank is watched from start to finish, with the slab edge and the outlet fitting checked as the level climbs, and from then on each load is logged by date and strength.

Where it earns its keep

Moving it, setting it, filling it
