Snyder Industries 2500 Gallon Heavy Duty Vertical Storage Tank

As wide as it is tall, and why that helps

At 96 inches across and 98 inches tall this tank is close to a cube in outline, which is the shape you want under a standard roof: the manway is opened from a step, the centre of gravity sits low, and the tank wants less restraint in wind than a tall, slim tank of the same volume. It is the half-tanker tank for a small water plant dosing ferric or alum, a plating shop with acid, or a food plant with a brine line, where the liquid is dense enough to need the 1.9 wall and the room is not tall. Snyder also makes 2,500 gallon tanks on a narrower base under a separate part number with the same name, so order by part number. Full of water it weighs 2,500 x 8.34 = 20,850 lb plus the tank, and a liquid at the 1.9 rating almost twice that, on a 96 inch circle. What goes in it

White runs cooler in the sun than black but passes some light, so a liquid that breaks down in light belongs in the black version of this tank. Openings and fittings

1. Outlet. A 2 inch polypropylene female NPT bulkhead fitting low in the wall. Eight feet of liquid above it keeps a metering pump at pad level flooded to the last few inches; add a calibration column, a strainer for the scale a dense chemical drops as it cools, and a low level float. If you need to unload the tank quickly rather than dose from it, tell us and we will talk about the fitting. Support the valve and the first pipe run off the pad and trace or insulate them where winters freeze.
2. Manway. An 18 inch threaded vented manway on top, 98 inches up, reached from a step. Fill through a dip tube or a screened manway, pipe the vent outside on anything that fumes, and size the vent for the delivery pump.
3. Freeboard. Fill to the shoulder; a dense liquid grows as it warms and the headspace absorbs it.

A forklift with long forks sets 510 lb on the pad with straps under the body, never through the manway. Check the part number 5090300C26 against the bill of lading, look over the floor edge and the outlet fitting, fill it with water the first time and hold it a day, then drain and dry it before the chemical arrives. Mark the shoulder line on the outside in paint marker so every later fill has a target.
