Why the low shell

Of the 3,000 gallon black tanks Snyder makes, this is the one to buy when the roof is the limit: a basement chemical room, a low mezzanine, a container or trailer mounted dosing station, a shed with a single storey roof. Eight feet to the top of the shell still needs room above it for the manway lid and a hand to open it, so measure to the lowest obstruction, not the roof deck. The buyers are water and wastewater plants putting a treatment chemical under a low deck, plating and process shops with a short bay, growers with a low shed, and anyone storing water where a taller tank would not fit. What the low shape costs is floor and head: the 102 inch circle carries all 25,020 lb of water and more at the rating, because a rotationally moulded tank bears on its whole floor, and the pump sits low and close because an eight foot shell holds a short column of liquid above the outlet. Openings and fittings

1. Outlet. A 3 inch polypropylene female NPT bulkhead fitting low in the wall. With a short column above it, keep the pump below the outlet with a short straight suction and set the low level cutout with margin. Fit a flexible connector to hard pipe and support the first valve off the pad.
2. Manway. An 18 inch threaded vented manway on top, reached from a step. Wide enough for a fill hose, a float and a brush. Keep the vent clear.
3. Liquid and temperature. Polyethylene handles water, most fertilizers and many common chemicals to 120 F; ask us about anything aggressive before you order. Where a second wall is required, the double wall freeboard guide works out the usable volume.
