Green indoors and out

Indoors, color is a label: green says potable water in a room that may also hold a black waste tank or a chemical tote. Outdoors, green blocks light like black does and blends into a garden. The 400 gallon shapes

The green WG24R is the other green option, 330 gallons at 50 inches tall on a 47 inch floor, for a crawlspace rather than a doorway. The 500 gallon 32511 adds 100 gallons on a floor 8 inches wider and 4 inches less height. Choose by the opening and the ceiling. All of them share the same fittings and the same 20 inch lid, so the plumbing plan does not change with the size.

The floor under 3,336 pounds

Full, the tank weighs 3,336 pounds on a 40 inch circle. On a slab that is nothing; on a wood floor it is a point load, so set it over a joist or on a small pad, and outdoors use a level base per the concrete pad sizing guide. Service limit is 120 F / 48 C. Leave a foot above the manway so it can open, and remember the tank passes a door upright at 40 inches or on its side in a pickup bed.

Plumbing

• 1-1/2 inch polypropylene female NPT bulkhead inlet on top for the fill line or a float valve.
• 2 inch polypropylene female NPT bulkhead outlet at the base: valve, union, pump.
• 20 inch threaded, vented manway. The vent stays open indoors too; a pump drawing the tank down needs the air.

Put the outlet valve where a hand reaches it, and give the pump a union so it comes off without draining 400 gallons. On a slow well the tank sits between the well pump and the pressure tank, with the float valve on the inlet keeping the well from running dry.
