A tanker load behind the heavy wall

A 1.9 specific gravity wall is sized for a liquid nearly twice as dense as water, the class ferric chloride at strength and the heavy brines fall in, and 1,301 pounds of resin is what that takes at 5,100 gallons, 351 pounds more than the certified 5,000 gallon tank on this same base. A siphon tube outlet draws from the floor through a fitting set higher on the wall, which keeps the bulkhead out of the sediment; prime it once and it stays primed. Snyder's 5,000 to 5,100 gallon verticals

The 32372 is the lighter-grade wall in this same shell at the same weight, for brine, fertilizer and coagulant as delivered. The 32388 and 32376 lay 5,100 gallons down to 93 inches on a 142 inch base for a low roof, the first in the lighter grade. The 1002100C34 is the general-grade 5,000 on this base, 5 inches shorter.

Connections

• Outlet: 3 inch polypropylene female NPT bulkhead fitting with a 2 inch reducer and an internal siphon tube; a flexible connector between the bulkhead and hard pipe, an expansion joint, and the valve supported off the slab.
• Access: 20 inch threaded, vented manway, 159 inches up; filled through a dip tube, vented outside on anything that fumes, and size the vent for a tanker's unload rate.
• Service limit: 120 F / 48 C.

Leave the reducer in for a 2 inch pump suction; take it out for a 3 inch fire line or a fast gravity drain. A siphon outlet needs the pump or the gravity line below the tank floor to stay primed; if the line ever runs dry, refill the tank above the fitting and open the valve to re-prime. Fit a sender read at ground level so nobody climbs for a number. On a chemical, choose the sender for the liquid, keep the manway closed against vapor loss, and shade the tank where the chemical is light-sensitive.

Delivery day at the manway

Unloading a tanker pushes air out faster than a stock manway vent can pass it; size the vent for that rate, or fill through a dedicated top bulkhead vented separately. A fill pipe to the floor keeps the liquid from free-falling and foaming. The first delivery into a new tank is watched from start to finish, with the slab edge and the outlet fitting checked as the level climbs, and the log takes the date and strength of every load that follows.

A crane or a forklift with long forks sets 1,301 pounds on the slab. Strap it, fill it to the manway once, prime the siphon, and check the outlet fitting before the first delivery. Once it is full and holding, leave it alone for a day before the plumbing goes on; a settled tank is a quiet one.
