The Snyder Industries 550 Gallon HDPE Vertical Liquid Storage Tank (SKU SII-8060000N45) is a 1.9 specific-gravity vertical storage tank built in high density linear polyethylene for water and liquids heavier than water. The shell measures 64 inches in diameter with a 46-inch sidewall height and holds 550 gallons. Full of water it carries 4,587 pounds; at its 1.9 SG rating the wall is engineered to support up to 8,715 pounds of contents, which is what separates this unit from a standard water-only vertical tank.

Will this Snyder vertical tank work for your job?

This is a white vertical HDPE storage tank, and the 1.9 specific-gravity rating is the number to anchor on. It tells you the wall is built to hold liquids weighing up to 1.9 times the weight of water, so the same shell that carries 550 gallons of water (4,587 pounds) can also hold a denser solution up to 8,715 pounds. That makes this the heavy-duty option versus a standard 1.0 to 1.5 SG water tank: same 550-gallon capacity and 64-inch footprint, but the wall is sized for the heavier load. Snyder lists this size with ASTM certification, and the wall follows ASTM D1998 logic, the rotomolding standard that governs how vertical polyethylene tanks are built for the liquid load they will actually see. For outlet and fitting placement, see the technical drawing on this page before you plumb the tank. If you are still choosing a size, run your volume through the Tank Sizing Calculator or read the Tank Sizing Guide, and the 550 Gallon Vertical Liquid Storage Tank buyer's guide walks through this exact capacity.

The mistake to avoid

The common error on a tank like this is sizing the shell to the gallons and ignoring the density. A 550-gallon tank rated to 1.9 SG is not the same as a 550-gallon water-only tank: the higher SG rating is what lets it hold a heavier liquid safely, so confirm your liquid's specific gravity is at or below 1.9 before you fill it. Remember that the 1.9 SG rating governs the tank wall, not the seals, so match your outlet gasket and fitting material to the liquid as well, since those are the parts in direct contact at the connection. The second error is at the top of the tank, not the bottom. On vertical HDPE tanks the wall at the vapor-saturated headspace is where premature failures tend to originate, and liquid-side inspections miss them; the breakdown is in our guide on HDPE tank wall thickness at the headspace and ASTM D1998 sizing logic. If this is a fire-water reservoir, the rural fire-water reservoir design guide covers NFPA 22 sizing and freeze protection for cold-climate sites.

Freight and ordering

This tank ships LTL freight, quoted live to your ZIP from the nearest Snyder plant, either Marked Tree, AR or Philippi, WV, so your freight cost depends on which plant serves your region. At this size it moves as a freight-only unit with no residential liftgate assumed, so plan to have equipment on site to offload it on delivery day. Get an exact number from the Freight Cost Estimator before you order, or call us at 866-418-1777 and we will quote the LTL rate and confirm outlet and fitting placement for your application.
