The Snyder Industries 70 Gallon Vertical Storage Tank is a heavy-duty crosslinked polyethylene (XLPE) vertical storage tank rated to 1.9 specific gravity, standing 41 inches tall on a compact 23 x 23 inch footprint (23-inch nominal diameter). For rural water storage, fire-reserve staging, and dense-liquid duty where floor space is tight, this is a heavy-wall XLPE tank that carries a high SG rating without giving up square footage.

Will it work for your job?

Built in ASTM XLPE (crosslinked linear polyethylene) in natural white, the tank holds 70 gallons and measures 41 inches high on a 23 x 23 inch base. Full of plain water it carries about 584 pounds. The 1.9 specific-gravity wall rating is the number that matters for chemistry math: you can fill all 70 gallons with a liquid up to 1.9 SG and stay within rating, which works out to roughly 1,109 pounds of contents at the ceiling. That is real headroom for liquids denser than water. The technical drawing on this page details the fittings: an 8-inch PE threaded and vented cap, a flanged outlet, a manway with 8-inch access for cleanout and inspection, and a 3.5 x 4.5 inch fitting that is shown but not labeled on the drawing. Verify the type, thread, and position of that 3.5 x 4.5 fitting on the drawing before you plumb to it. Because the flanged outlet and the 8-inch manway cover are gasketed connections, and the 1.9 SG rating invites heavier-duty contents, also confirm the gasket material suits your stored liquid rather than assuming plain-water service. If you are unsure whether 70 gallons matches your draw-down or reserve target, run it through the Tank Sizing Calculator or read the Tank Sizing Guide.

Why XLPE, and where it fits

Crosslinking gives this vertical tank a tougher, more impact- and stress-crack-resistant wall than a standard HDPE tank of the same size, which is why the SG rating reaches 1.9. That matters most when the stored liquid is denser than water or when the tank sees temperature swings and outdoor exposure. For the tradeoffs between crosslinked and linear resin, see Snyder XLPE vs HDPE. If this tank is headed into a private fire-protection or rural reservoir role, the rural fire-water reservoir design guide covers NFPA 22 sizing discipline and cold-climate freeze protection.

Set it up right

The common mistake on a vertical tank this narrow is the base. A 23 x 23 inch footprint carrying over 1,000 pounds when fully loaded concentrates weight on a small area, so the tank needs a fully continuous, level, smooth pad that supports the entire bottom - never a partial or point-loaded surface. For pad specifics, see Concrete Pad Sizing for Above-Ground Polyethylene Tanks. If you plan to fill with a heavier liquid, size your freeboard as well; the freeboard sizing guide walks through the ASTM D1998 math.
