2000 Gallon Vertical Liquid Storage Tank

Where a tall, narrow tank earns its place

Most 2000 gallon vertical tanks are seven to eight feet across. This one is a little over five feet across and almost thirteen feet tall, so it goes where the others cannot: beside a building, in the corner of a wash bay, between two pieces of equipment, or through a gate that a wider shell would never clear. The trade is height. Measure the clear height at the final position and at the lowest point on the path in, because a tank that fits where it stands but not where it has to pass is no use. Add room above the manway for a fill hose or a float switch. A tall, narrow shell also catches wind and has a smaller footprint to resist it, so plan to strap it to a wall, a frame or ground anchors before the first fill. Openings, fittings and the pad

1. Outlet. A 2 inch polypropylene female NPT bulkhead fitting, factory installed low in the wall. Your valve or hose adapter threads straight in. Support the valve and the first length of pipe so the fitting carries liquid, not hardware.
2. Manway. A 16 inch threaded vented manway on top. It takes a fill hose, a float, and a hand with a brush for cleaning. The vent is what lets the tank breathe as it fills and drains; never plug it.
3. The pad. A rotationally moulded floor bears on everything it touches and nothing else. Give the whole 64 inch circle continuous contact: a level slab, a steel plate or a compacted, screeded bed with a retained edge. No rails, no pallet, no shim under one side.
4. The liquid. Polyethylene suits water, most fertilizers and many common chemicals, up to 1.5 specific gravity and 120 F. Anything heavier needs the heavy duty version of a 2000 gallon tank, linked below.
