Low profile means the volume runs along the trench rather than down into it: at 51 inches tall the tank goes into a shallower hole than a standard 1500 gallon tank, which matters where rock, a high water table or a shallow sewer line keeps the excavation short. Where it goes and who signs off
A septic tank is a permitted installation everywhere, and the permit is issued locally against a state list of approved tanks. What to check before you buy
- The hole. 157 inches long and 69 inches wide, plus room around it for bedding and compaction. The 51 inch height plus the cover your code requires sets the depth. Check that depth against the sewer line leaving the house: the inlet has to sit below the line with fall to spare.
- Inlet and outlet. Both are 4 inch gasket and tee assemblies, shipped loose. The installer sets them once the inlet and outlet elevations are known, which is the advantage of loose plumbing on a site that is still being designed. Your 4 inch sewer pipe connects to each through the gasket. Keep the gaskets with the tank.
- Access. One 20 inch manway. Most codes require access at grade for pumping, so plan on a riser and lid to bring the opening to the surface; tell us the burial depth and we will quote the riser with the tank. Ask your inspector whether they want access over each compartment.
- Groundwater. An empty polyethylene tank in wet ground floats. Follow Norwesco's installation instructions on bedding, backfill and filling, and never leave the tank pumped empty when the water table is high.
