The Norwesco 3135 Gallon Horizontal Leg Tank in black is a self-supporting transport and nurse tank built for moving liquid loads over the road on a frame or sled. The elliptical leg-tank body sits low on integrated legs to keep the center of gravity down, and at 88 inches wide, 88 inches tall, and 150 inches long it carries a true 3,135 gallons of polyethylene capacity. Norwesco molds this tank to a 1.5 specific gravity rating, so it handles liquids denser than water without compromising the wall. Buyers searching for a Norwesco horizontal leg tank or a black horizontal tank for fertilizer and field hauling land here for a reason: this is the load-and-go workhorse of the agricultural fleet.

Will it work for your load

The number that governs everything on a haul tank is weight. Filled with water this tank carries about 26,146 pounds; loaded to its full 1.5 specific gravity rating it can hold up to 39,219 pounds of contents. Before you spec a trailer, frame, or axle group, run those figures against your rig - a tank this size routinely outweighs the chassis it rides on when full. The footprint is 88.0 x 150.0 inches, so confirm your cradle or saddle spacing matches the elliptical contour. Use the Tank Sizing Calculator and the Tank Sizing Guide to match capacity to the weight your equipment can legally and safely carry, and review the technical drawing on this page for fitting locations and leg geometry before you build the mount.

Chemical compatibility

This is a polyethylene tank rated to 1.5 specific gravity, but the resin is reported and not yet verified. HDLPE and XLPE behave very differently in chemical service, so confirm the actual resin (HDLPE versus XLPE) with us before you commit this tank to anything beyond water. Note also that no factory fittings are confirmed for this tank in our data: fitting and bulkhead locations are shown on the technical drawing, and the fitting and gasket materials listed below are the wetted materials you must specify when you order or build them - they are not included. Always match concentration and temperature to the OEM chemical-resistance chart, which is concentration- and temperature-specific; the listings below are starting points, not blanket approvals.

Compatible at this tank's 1.5 SG rating - every one of these uses EPDM gaskets:

One DEF-specific warning for fleet buyers: DEF (32.5%) is compatible at this 1.5 rating but is the only listed chemical that requires 316 stainless fittings - PVC or PP hardware is not appropriate for DEF service and will risk contaminating the fluid.

The mistake to avoid: overloading the SG rating

The single most common error on a tank like this is running a denser chemical than the 1.5 rating allows. A long list of common ag and water-treatment chemicals require a higher 1.9 specific gravity tank, not this one - and several also require different gasket material, so do not carry EPDM over to those services. For example, Sulfuric Acid needs a 1.9 SG tank with CPVC fittings and Viton gaskets; Sodium Hypochlorite needs 1.9 SG with PVC fittings and Viton gaskets; Hydrochloric Acid needs 1.9 SG with PVC fittings and Viton gaskets; and Peracetic Acid needs 1.9 SG with 316SS fittings and Aflas gaskets. The full 1.9-only list also includes Ethylene Glycol, Ferric Chloride, Ferric Sulfate, Hydrofluoric Acid, Hydrofluosilicic Acid, Hydrogen Peroxide, Phosphoric Acid, Polyaluminum Chloride, Potassium Carbonate, Potassium Hydroxide, Propylene Glycol, Sodium Bisulfate, Sodium Bisulfite, Sodium Thiosulfate, and Zinc Orthophosphate. We stock the 1.9 SG version - if your application is on that list, call 866-418-1777 and we will spec it instead. Cross-check your exact chemical, concentration, fitting, and gasket on its page and at our full chemical compatibility resource.
