The Norwesco 3250 Gallon Plastic Horizontal Elliptical Leg Tank in White is a polyethylene horizontal leg tank built for hauling on a trailer or skid, with an elliptical cross-section that keeps the load low and stable on the road. It measures 152 inches long by 88 inches wide by 82 inches high, riding on integral support legs that cradle the elliptical body. Those molded-in legs are why farmers and applicators reach for a Norwesco horizontal leg tank instead of a free-standing vertical when the tank has to travel full.

Will this tank work for your job

Capacity is 3250 gallons, and the tank carries a 1.5 specific gravity rating. That rating is the number that decides whether your contents are safe in this tank. Plain water at 3250 gallons full weighs 27,105 pounds; the tank is rated to carry up to 40,658 pounds of contents, which is what the 1.5 SG buys you over a 1.0 water-only shell. The footprint is 88.0 x 152.0 inches, so confirm your trailer deck or pad clears that before you order. Use the Tank Sizing Calculator and the Tank Sizing Guide to check that your filled weight and axle ratings line up with your equipment. For drilled-fitting locations, fill-tower placement, and leg spacing, see the technical drawing on this page.

Chemical compatibility

This tank is rated to 1.5 specific gravity, and the resin on record is a high-density polyethylene that has not been firmly confirmed for this model. The compatibilities below assume the manufacturer-confirmed resin, so verify whether you have linear (HDLPE) or cross-linked (XLPE) polyethylene with the manufacturer before charging it with any chemical, since the two resist chemicals differently. At the 1.5 SG rating, this tank handles the following at the concentrations shown, per the Norwesco chemical-resistance chart (always check that chart against your exact concentration and temperature): Acetic Acid at 60 percent with PP or PVC fittings and EPDM gaskets; Aluminum Sulfate at 50 percent (PVC, EPDM); Calcium Chloride at 40 percent (PVC, EPDM); DEF at 32.5 percent (316SS fittings, EPDM); Ferrous Sulfate at 20 percent (PVC, EPDM); Magnesium Chloride at 30 percent (PVC, EPDM); Sodium Carbonate at 30 percent (PVC, EPDM); and Urea Solution at 50 percent (PP or PVC, EPDM). Ozonated Water up to 10 PPM also works with PVC fittings and EPDM gaskets. The fitting and gasket materials matter as much as the tank wall, so match them to the chemical.

Several common applicator chemicals need a heavier tank than this one and call for a 1.9 specific gravity shell: Ethylene Glycol, Ferric Chloride, Ferric Sulfate, Hydrochloric Acid, Hydrofluoric Acid, Hydrofluosilicic Acid, Hydrogen Peroxide, Peracetic Acid, Phosphoric Acid, Polyaluminum Chloride, Potassium Carbonate, Potassium Hydroxide, Propylene Glycol, Sodium Bisulfate, Sodium Bisulfite, Sodium Hypochlorite, Sodium Thiosulfate, Sulfuric Acid, and Zinc Orthophosphate. Several of these also need more than EPDM: the acids, hydrogen peroxide, and sodium hypochlorite require Viton gaskets, peracetic acid requires Aflas with 316SS fittings, and sulfuric acid requires CPVC fittings rather than PVC. If your service is on that list, you need a 1.9 SG-rated tank instead, not this one. Call 866-418-1777 and we will match you to the right shell, and our full chemical compatibility reference covers concentration and gasket selection.

The mistake to avoid

Buyers spec by gallons and forget specific gravity. This is a 1.5 SG tank, so it covers water and the lighter chemistries above, but it is not built for the 1.9 SG list. Pick a chemical heavier than 1.5 SG and you can overstress the wall on a full haul. Decide by the rating and the gasket the chart calls for, not by gallons alone.
