Fittings and configuration

This 1000 gallon cone tank's listed fittings include a flange, a 10-inch PE threaded/vented fitting, a fill cap with a 7-inch access opening, and a top fitting. These are top-side fittings; the cone-apex discharge outlet is not detailed in the fitting list, so confirm the bottom outlet size and configuration from the technical drawing on this page before you plan your discharge plumbing. Chemical compatibility

This tank is molded in polyethylene with a 1.9 specific gravity rating. The resin is recorded as HDLPE but not yet confirmed, so confirm HDLPE versus XLPE with us before committing the tank to chemical service, since polyethylene resins differ in chemical resistance. The single most common chemical-tank field failure is the wrong gasket, so match your elastomer to your liquid. Strong acids and oxidizers run on Viton gaskets: Hydrochloric Acid (37%, PVC), Hydrofluoric Acid (48%, PP/PVC), Hydrofluosilicic Acid (26%, PP/PVC), Hydrogen Peroxide (50%, PVC), Phosphoric Acid (85%, PVC), Sodium Hypochlorite (<16.5%, PVC), and Sulfuric Acid (98%, CPVC).

Salts, glycols, and bases run on the default EPDM gasket with PVC fittings: Acetic Acid (60%, PP/PVC), Aluminum Sulfate (50%), Calcium Chloride (40%), Ferric Chloride (50%), Ferric Sulfate (60%), Ferrous Sulfate (20%), Magnesium Chloride (30%), Ethylene Glycol (100%), Sodium Carbonate (30%), Potassium Carbonate (50%), Potassium Hydroxide (saturated), Sodium Thiosulfate (40%), Polyaluminum Chloride, and Ozonated Water (up to 10 PPM).

A few services demand metal or specific-plastic fittings rather than the default PVC. DEF (32.5%) requires 316SS fittings with an EPDM gasket; Propylene Glycol and Zinc Orthophosphate run PP or 316SS with EPDM; and Sodium Bisulfate and Sodium Bisulfite use PVC/PP with EPDM. The one true exception is Peracetic Acid (30%): it needs 316SS fittings and an Aflas gasket, not the EPDM or Viton used elsewhere, so don't default a peracetic build to a Viton kit.
