The N43 and N39 are the certified 1.5 and 1.35 walls in this same shell for coagulants, brines and water that never approach this density, and the N42 is cross-linked polyethylene for oxidizers. Bulkheads and lid

• Access: 18 inch threaded, vented manway; vent outside on acid and caustic service, fill through a dip tube, and size the vent for a delivery truck's unload rate.
• Outlet: name the chemical when ordering so the bulkhead fitting matches it; hard pipe joined to the bulkhead through a flexible connector, valve on a bracket of its own.
• Service limit: 120 F / 48 C.

Choose the level sender for the chemical; a float switch at low level shuts the pump off before it runs dry. Put the dosing pump below the outlet, where it primes by gravity, keep the manway closed against vapor loss, and shade the tank where the chemical is light-sensitive. A single wall tank of a regulated liquid lives inside a berm that holds the whole tank. Insulate or drain the outlet valve and the first run of pipe wherever the ground freezes.

Receiving a delivery

A delivery truck's pump moves liquid faster than a manway vent passes air, so the vent is sized for the unload rate or the fill comes in through a top bulkhead with its own vent line. The fill pipe runs to the floor so caustic or coagulant does not free-fall and foam. Dense liquids heat up when diluted, so a tank topped off with water for a batch is filled water first, chemical second, never the other way. The first delivery into a new tank is watched from start to finish, with the outlet fitting checked as the level climbs, and every delivery after that goes in the log with a date and a strength.

Day-to-day duty

Ferric and other dense coagulants at a small plant with a berm and a low roof, acid feed for pH control, heavy brine for a softener bank, and any 2,000 gallon vessel of dense chemical where the certification has to be on file, including a fire reserve of the kind the fire-water reservoir design guide describes when it holds water.
