Linear polyethylene softens with heat and creeps under sustained load; cross-linked polyethylene is molded with a catalyst that ties the polymer chains into one network, so it holds its shape under a dense liquid, resists the stress cracking oxidizers cause, and tolerates heat. The trade is that it cannot be plastic-welded, so fittings are bulkhead or bolted and any added port is decided before the tank is filled. The N45 is the linear-resin twin at the same weight, for milder chemicals and a lower price, and the N43 is the linear 1.5 specific gravity grade for coagulants and brines. The N30 is the sulfuric acid grade, 60 pounds heavier. The 5580000N30 is the 2,500 gallon double wall, 20 inches shorter on the same base, and the 5600000N30 is the 3,500 gallon step up at 158 inches.

Manway and outlet, then the interstice
- Access: 18 inch threaded, vented manway on the primary, 142 inches up; vent outside on hypochlorite, acid and caustic, fill through a dip tube, and size the vent for a tanker's unload rate.
- Outlet: both walls together at one flanged penetration, expansion joint after it, valve supported from the slab; specify the fitting for the chemical when ordering, and decide any added port before the tank is filled, because XLPE cannot be welded.
- Service limit: 120 F / 48 C.
Two levels to watch: the primary, with a sender chosen for the chemical, since hypochlorite is hard on wetted parts, and the interstitial space, which is the leak alarm and gets a float or conductivity switch, a look into the port each shift, and a logged check each week. Liquid in the space means the primary has failed, and the tank is emptied that day. Full of water alone the tank loads a 102 inch circle to 25,020 pounds, and a rated liquid weighs more: a slab engineered for it and in full contact under the whole floor, and straps on the empty tank against wind.
Fill day
The truck's pump outruns the manway vent, so size the vent for the unload rate or give the fill its own top bulkhead and vent line. A fill pipe to the floor keeps the liquid from free-falling and foaming. Watch the first delivery from the first gallon to the last, with eyes on the slab edge, the outlet fitting and the interstitial port as the tank fills; after that, a dated log of each delivery and its strength is what turns a guess about turnover into a schedule, and for hypochlorite the schedule is short and the tank is shaded.

Hypochlorite and acid bulk storage at water systems that cannot build a berm, oxidizer storage inside occupied buildings, and any regulated chemical at plant scale at a site an inspector visits.
