Chemical compatibility
This is a polyethylene tote carrying the 1.9 specific gravity rating - the heaviest-duty rating in this line, which is why it handles such a broad chemistry set and why there is no need to step up to a higher-SG tank for anything below. Confirm the resin grade with us for your specific chemistry before committing the tote to chemical service, since resin determines true compatibility. Just as important as the wall is matching the wetted fittings and gaskets to the fluid. The pack chemistries sort into three gasket buckets per the OEM chemical-resistance chart:
- EPDM gaskets, PVC/PP fittings - the default for most salts, glycols, caustics, and neutral chemistries: Acetic Acid (60%), Aluminum Sulfate (50%), Calcium Chloride (40%), Ethylene Glycol (100%), Ferric Chloride (50%), Ferric Sulfate (60%), Ferrous Sulfate (20%), Magnesium Chloride (30%), Polyaluminum Chloride, Potassium Carbonate (50%), Potassium Hydroxide (saturated), Propylene Glycol, Sodium Bisulfate, Sodium Bisulfite, Sodium Carbonate (30%), Sodium Thiosulfate (40%), Urea Solution (50%), Zinc Orthophosphate, and Ozonated Water (up to 10 PPM).
- Viton gaskets - required for the oxidizers and strong acids, where EPDM is the single most common mis-spec: Hydrochloric Acid (37%, PVC), Hydrofluoric Acid (48%, PP/PVC), Hydrofluosilicic Acid (26%, PP/PVC), Hydrogen Peroxide (50%, PVC), Phosphoric Acid (85%, PVC), Sodium Hypochlorite (<16.5%, PVC), and Sulfuric Acid (98%, CPVC).
- Aflas gaskets - Peracetic Acid (30%) only.
Two chemistries break from the PVC/PP fitting default and require stainless wetted parts: DEF (Diesel Exhaust Fluid) at 32.5% takes 316SS fittings with EPDM gaskets, and Peracetic Acid at 30% takes 316SS with Aflas. If you are running DEF and default to PVC off the rest of the list, you will mis-spec the trim - use 316SS.
